Installable PWA
Nametag is now installable as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on phones and desktops, offering the ability to add the app to your home screen or desktop for quick access. This update includes:
- A translated web app manifest with app icons designed for use on all supported platforms.
- A service worker providing an offline fallback page. Offline functionality is limited, caching only app icons, build output, and the static offline page to prioritize privacy. Contact data remains uncached for security reasons.
- An in-app prompt allowing users to install Nametag directly from the browser interface.
Self-hosters: HTTPS is required for PWA installation. On plain HTTP, install prompts and offline functionality are disabled without errors. Details are available in the reverse proxy documentation. On iOS, home screen installation over plain HTTP provides a basic non-offline setup.
