Tine Beta 0.8.0-beta.3

latest release: beta
pre-releaseone hour ago

Added

  • The Journal sections page explains what it controls and links to its Guide in the right sidebar (GH #710).
  • Custom CSS can set --tine-danger-color to override error and destructive-action colors (UI-DANGER-THEME-CONTRAST).

Changed

  • Appearance starts with Themes and keeps fine-tuning, Custom CSS and content widths in searchable Advanced settings; numbered tab/pane and resize commands stay in Shortcuts, task carry uses the configured day count, empty Namespaces stays hidden, and Commands offers New workspace… (UI census 2026-10).
  • Page and block menus group reference, embed and link copying under Copy as ▸; page menus omit duplicate Markdown copying and show Find in page only on mobile, sidebar item menus keep contextual actions, and references and query results use one fold toggle (UI census 2026-10).
  • Upcoming is now off by default; add {{upcoming}} to the Journal sections page to show future journal references in that position (GH #710).
  • Build: consolidate Rust integration tests into one executable per crate and omit third-party debug data to reduce linking time and disk writes.
  • An Android share now opens the journal where it landed and reveals the last shared item in the batch, while keeping the Captured notice (GH #608).
  • Desktop image copy offers the original graph asset file even when its preview exceeds the limit, plus a bitmap for image-only apps after validating the decoded size, including PNG headers (GH #700).
  • Soft now uses EllisMorrow's refined middle-range palette, with darker light surfaces, brighter dark surfaces, warm highlights and quieter active navigation and scrollbars (GH #649).
  • Tine Beta checks for updates at a fixed address on tine.page, and each Beta is published as its own release (vX.Y.Z-beta.N) instead of replacing the files of a moving beta release; older Betas still find this one (discussion #682).

Fixed

  • Chinese IME (( now becomes (()) and opens block search, through ordinary input or composition; full-width selection wrapping and 《〈 block commands also match their ASCII equivalents (GH #53).
  • Inline checklist and task checkboxes have larger touch targets on phones without changing their appearance or indentation (GH #691).
  • Preview source clicks switch to the opened tab, preview actions keep the preview open, and Open in new tab confirms its background tab on desktop and mobile (GH #363, GH #705).
  • Page icon saving and recovery, diagnostics, workspace and query actions use themed buttons instead of native browser bevels (UI-SW-BUTTONS).
  • Settings search highlights matching Latin and Chinese text in result labels (GH #706).
  • Chinese slash-menu rows show English keywords followed by Chinese glosses; English matching and inserted syntax stay unchanged (GH #107).
  • Journal carry buttons appear on title-row hover or keyboard focus, and stay visible on devices without hover (UI-CENSUS-7).
  • Removed the parser comparison runner from Help & diagnostics; diagnostic reports, rescan and graph verification remain available (UI-CENSUS-18).
  • Alt-dragging one block from a query result or an ordinary outline bullet now inserts a saved block reference while keeping the source in place (GH #494).
  • Image macros retain Copy image when previews are unavailable, and an open image viewer keeps file copy after an asset refresh (GH #700).
  • Plain navigation now switches to an already-open page tab even when one route uses the page name and the other its file path, preserving the source tab (GH #711).
  • Query table column choices now come from the current results instead of offering unrelated graph properties; saved choices survive changes to the results (GH #680).
  • Shortcuts and shortcut recording recognize the physical Latin letter or digit on non-Latin keyboard layouts, including Cyrillic, while text input and Latin layouts keep their behavior (GH #709).
  • Settings search shows only matching results instead of appending unrelated tab controls, and finds more settings and tools (GH #706).
  • With "Click a block reference to zoom in" turned on, clicking a reference to a block on another page now zooms into that block; before, nothing happened (GH #708).
  • Removing the last query condition restores the empty-state prompt (GH #551); Search tab selection toggles off, keeps actions above results and preserves page and block labels (GH #387).
  • Tab split drop zones grow with each pane on all four sides; dropping just below its tab strip now splits above it, matching the preview (GH #499).
  • All pages matches the typography of neighboring sidebar headings in English and Chinese (GH #335).
  • Search view labels, validation messages and deeper query options follow the interface language, including Simplified Chinese (GH #107).
  • Error and destructive-action text and error borders stay readable in every bundled light and dark color scheme (UI-DANGER-THEME-CONTRAST).
  • Today's journal waits for agenda and default-query results before showing their sections, avoiding a loading flash when switching graphs (discussion #617).
  • iOS: launching Tine no longer shows a red "Could not apply interface zoom." error; the interface zoom setting now applies on iOS (UI-IOS-ZOOM-TOAST-ON-LAUNCH).
  • A block link can no longer fail with "Tine link target not found in any known graph" when the quick check of closed graphs misses its block: Tine fully opens the graphs it ruled out before reporting the link as not found (GH #181).

Download an installer for your platform below. Windows and Linux ship both x64 and ARM64 builds (match your CPU). Windows users who prefer no installer can grab the portable Tine-Beta_0.8.0-beta.3_x64-portable.zip for their architecture. Windows builds are currently unsigned, so Windows may show a warning on first launch. The macOS build is signed and notarized. On macOS, if Tine repeatedly asks to access Documents, see the workaround in the README.
