Tine 0.7.0

Tine 0.7.0 makes the Tine Beta line stable. It is Tine Beta 0.7.0-beta.2 (the
two Beta sections below list everything it changed) plus the three fixes in
this section. Your settings, graphs and sessions carry over from 0.6.x. The
new Beta features since beta.2 (Flatpak, tray icon, Open in new window, custom
CSS theming) stay in Beta for now.

Changed

  • Stable Tine is now built from the Beta line: plain Markdown/Org files are the only storage, with no on-disk search index to build or repair. Beta keeps its separate app and update channel and continues with 0.7.x betas.

Fixed

  • Opening pages: a single page whose properties were followed by a blank line and then a #+ directive (for example title:: X, a blank line, #+description: y, or an Org file-level property drawer before #+title:) made every link and tag fail with "Couldn't open this page: task N panicked with message "byte range starts at N+1 but ends at N"" and left [[ completion with no pages. Such pages now open and keep their title, and a page whose title cannot be read no longer stops the rest of the graph from loading (GH #644, REG-OG-GH644).
  • External edits: a page changed on disk (by Syncthing, Dropbox or another editor) stayed stale while one of its blocks was open in the editor, which includes leaving Tine for another app with the caret still in a block; it updated only after you pressed Escape or navigated away and back, and typing into the stale block then raised a conflict. The page now updates in place and the editor stays on the same block (found by its id::, else by its place in the outline), with the caret kept; if the change deleted that block the editor closes. A change still waits while text is being composed with an input method, and a different file taking the page's name is still refused while you edit (REG-OG-RELOAD-WHILE-EDITING).
  • Android (GH #654): the copy button on an image (on the picture itself and in the full-screen view) always answered "Couldn't copy the image", because the system clipboard plugin Tine used cannot put an image on the Android clipboard. Tine now stages the picture in its cache and puts it on the Android clipboard through the app's own file provider, which is how Android apps share images. What could not be checked without a device is whether pasting that clipboard image into a block adds it as a picture on every Android version (UI-OG-GH654).

Download an installer for your platform below. Windows and Linux ship both x64 and ARM64 builds (match your CPU). Windows users who prefer no installer can grab the portable Tine_0.7.0_x64-portable.zip for their architecture. Windows builds are currently unsigned, so Windows may show a warning on first launch. The macOS build is signed and notarized. On macOS, if Tine repeatedly asks to access Documents, see the workaround in the README.
