Main User Facing Changes
Compilers are now downloaded from the Zig community mirrors, and you can now set a zig version to use outside of projects. Here are the user-facing changes in this release:
- Community mirrors: compilers from ziglang.org are now downloaded from the community mirrors, tried in a random order, and every download's minisign signature is verified against the ZSF's public key (including that it signs the requested file, so a mirror can't serve a different version). If no mirror can provide it, anyzig falls back to ziglang.org. Set
ANYZIG_MIRRORSto a space-separated list of mirror URLs to use those instead, in order. By @dasimmet and @marler8997 in #70 - Ad-hoc version:
zig any set-ad-hoc-version VERSIONsets the zig version to use outside of a project (nobuild.zigin the current or any parent directory), so editors and one-off files work without specifying a version. A project's version always takes priority. Run it without a VERSION to clear it. By @nhawke and @marler8997 in #83 - Downloads are logged by default: anyzig now prints which compiler it's downloading and from where, along with a warning when a mirror fails.
- Unknown releases fail immediately: a release version that doesn't exist (i.e. a typo like
zig 12.2.1) now fails with an error instead of trying to download it. - Breaking:
zig any set-verbositywas removed: set theANYZIG_VERBOSEenvironment variable to any non-empty value to log what anyzig is doing. By @marler8997 in #105
