MailFlow v3.8.1

Two more fixes for incoming mail that could stall the whole server, a fix for renaming folders deleting mail, and conversation view fixes for phones. Update as soon as you can. Thanks to @Monkey7539 for the three server fixes and for reviewing the conversation fixes, and to @coolswood for the conversation fixes.

Security

  • An email with inline images could overload the server (#552). Some messages with inline images were rebuilt into a body of more than 100 MB as they arrived, without being opened. Inline images are now embedded in one pass with a size limit.
  • An email could stall sync while its preview was built (#547). Some plain-text messages took tens of seconds to turn into a preview, and the server answered nobody meanwhile. They now take milliseconds, and previews are unchanged.

Like the fix in 3.8.0, neither needs anyone to open the message, so any MailFlow server that receives mail is exposed until it is updated.

Fixed

  • Renaming a folder could delete mail in it (#549). Messages another mail app had marked as deleted, but not yet removed (for example Thunderbird's "mark as deleted"), could be permanently deleted when the folder was renamed, although MailFlow showed them as ordinary mail. They now survive a rename.
  • Conversations on a phone (#545). In conversation view, the thread's buttons sat under the phone's status bar, and an installed MailFlow had no way back to the list. The conversation now has a header with a Back button, like a single message.
  • Hand-typed mail in conversations (#550, #548). Message bodies in conversation view now sit in the same padded white card as in the reading pane, so mail without margins of its own is no longer flush against the edge.

Upgrading

ghcr.io/maathimself/mailflow-backend:latest points at 3.8.1, published for amd64 and arm64. There are no database migrations. Tabs opened on 3.8.0 reload into the new version by themselves; reload any older ones.
