HelixSR 3.0.0 (pre-release)

HelixSR 3.0.0 brings HLX FSR 4: AMD's FSR 4 network on HelixSR's own fast pipeline, for GPUs without FSR 4. This is a
pre-release: please report problems at https://github.com/lonewolf0622/HelixSR/issues with the log (see below).

What is new

  • HLX FSR 4. AMD's FSR 4 upscaling network, run by HelixSR's own pipeline. Use it in two ways:
    • as the FSR drop-in for games with FSR 3.1, also games with anti-cheat: HelixSR replaces only the game's FSR 3.1
      file (the original is kept). Pick AMD FSR in the game;
    • in HelixSR Scaler's upscaler list, next to HLX DLSS, AMD FSR and XeSS.
  • HLX FSR 4 is built on your PC. The setup builds its shaders from AMD's FSR 4 driver file amdxcffx64.dll
    2.4.0.4370 (AMD Software 26.10.1). On Windows with that AMD driver installed it uses the installed copy; otherwise it
    downloads AMD's driver package once and reads only that file out of it (about 420 MB, nothing is installed). Every
    shader is checked against the tested one.
  • HLX DLSS. HelixSR's DLSS network (HelixSR\helixsr.dll) is now HelixSR Scaler's DLSS upscaler. Pick DLSS in the
    game.
  • HelixSR Scaler 2.0.0 is included (folder helixsr-scaler). It carries HLX FSR 4 once the setup has built it. Its
    settings, including HelixSR's ([HelixSR] Int8, WaveSize), are in the game's OptiScaler.ini.
  • HelixSR Desktop 1.2.0 (attached) installs HelixSR 3.0, with the HelixSR Scaler that comes with the release.
  • Games with HelixSR 2.0 installed show Update available. The update moves them to the new layout and keeps the
    earlier install for Go back.

Changed

  • No HelixSR frame generation in this release. AMD FSR 3 / FSR 4 and Intel XeSS frame generation stay selectable in
    HelixSR Scaler's menu. Use HelixSR 2.0.0 if you need HelixSR's DLSS frame generation.
  • The setup needs Microsoft's shader compiler releases v1.9.2607 and v1.9.2609 and downloads them when needed.

How to test it

With the setup (Windows, Linux, Steam Deck)

  1. Download HelixSR-3.0.0.zip below and extract it into a folder you keep (for example C:\HelixSR or your home
    folder). Do not run it from inside the ZIP.
  2. Close your games.
  3. Run the setup in that folder:
    • Windows: double-click helixsr-setup.bat.
    • Linux / Steam Deck (Desktop Mode): run ./helixsr-setup.sh in a terminal (or double-click it and choose
      Run in terminal). Linux needs Proton (installed with Steam) or Wine for the shader compiler.
  4. The first run asks before each download (press Enter) and builds HelixSR on your PC, which takes a few minutes:
    • HLX DLSS, from NVIDIA's DLSS 310.7.0 file (downloaded from NVIDIA);
    • HLX FSR 4, from AMD's FSR 4 file. On Windows with AMD Software 26.10.1 installed it uses that driver's copy.
      Everyone else (all Linux PCs, NVIDIA and Intel GPUs, older AMD drivers) downloads AMD's driver package once
      (about 420 MB); only that one file is read out of it and nothing is installed.
  5. It lists your games and asks for each one: install? [s/f/n] (Enter = the recommended choice):
    • s = HelixSR Scaler. Start the game and pick DLSS as the upscaler. Press Insert for the menu, where you
      can also switch to HLX FSR 4, AMD FSR or XeSS.
    • f = FSR drop-in with HLX FSR 4, for games with FSR 3.1 (also games with anti-cheat). Pick AMD FSR in the
      game.
    • n = skip.
      A game the setup does not find: drop its folder onto helixsr-setup.bat, or run ./helixsr-setup.sh /path/to/game.

Games that have HelixSR 2.0 installed show installed. Update?: Enter updates them to 3.0.0.

To remove HelixSR, run helixsr-uninstall.bat / ./helixsr-uninstall.sh. It puts every game file back. To go back to
2.0.0, uninstall first, then run 2.0.0's setup.

With the app

The HelixSR Desktop you may already have (1.1.0) cannot install 3.0.0 and does not update itself to the new
version, because this is a pre-release. Install HelixSR Desktop 1.2.0 from the files below:

  • Windows: HelixSR.Desktop_1.2.0_x64-setup.exe
  • Linux / Steam Deck: HelixSR.Desktop_1.2.0_amd64.AppImage (make it executable, then run it) or the .deb

Then, in the app, before pressing Set up (the app on its own sets up the latest release, 2.0.0):

  1. About > Versions, pick 3.0.0 (pre-release) under HelixSR, press Use this version and confirm.
  2. Tick the agreement and press Set up. The app downloads 3.0.0 and builds it (a few minutes; the AMD download as
    above).
  3. Pick a game and press Install. The game's page says what to pick in the game.

Already set up with 2.0.0 in the app? Do step 1. The app builds 3.0.0, and your games show Update.

Reporting a problem

Open an issue at https://github.com/lonewolf0622/HelixSR/issues with your GPU, the game, what you picked
(HelixSR Scaler or FSR drop-in) and the log:

  • helixsr.log in the game's HelixSR folder (HLX DLSS);
  • HLX FSR 4: OptiScaler.log next to the game's .exe with HelixSR Scaler, or HLX_FSR.log next to the FSR file with
    the FSR drop-in;
  • if the setup failed: the last lines it printed.

What the setup builds contains data made from NVIDIA's and AMD's software: it is for your own PC, do not share or
upload it.

HelixSR is not affiliated with NVIDIA or AMD. HelixSR Scaler 2.0.0 is based on OptiScaler (GPL-3.0, source:
https://github.com/lonewolf0622/HelixSR-Scaler).
