Lokal 3.0 brings together everything built across the 2.1 series: streaming and addons alongside your local library, lossless upgrades, listening recaps, and a smoother app from end to end.
🌟 Highlights
- Online search & addons. Search and stream beyond your library, save streamed songs to it, and download them. Addon downloads come fully tagged (title, artist, album, cover, lyrics). Downloading a song you were streaming replaces the streamed copy in your likes and playlists, and a song is never downloaded twice. (#54, #55, #64, #79, #80)
- Audio Quality & lossless upgrades. See what your library is made of (hi-res, lossless, high and low bitrate). Spot lossless files that were made from MP3s, and get any track in lossless through Soulseek or the stores that sell it. The new file takes the old one's place, and its likes, playlists and history stay. (#56)
- Listening recaps. Weekly, monthly and yearly recaps of your whole listening history, with a Year → Month → Week picker, a story viewer, and playable sessions, top artists and genres. (#59, #63, #86, #87)
- ListenBrainz scrobbling alongside Last.fm. (#51)
- Smoother everywhere. Pages appear whole, with no flashes of empty or loading states. Pages you come back to show their last content instantly. Covers fade in, numbers roll up, and popups always open on screen. (#66, #67, #69, #72)
- A cleaner album grid. Covers show unobstructed and play on hover, Spotify style. (#88)
- Full-screen player & lyrics are one view with two layouts, and switching between them is instant. (#73, #74, #76)
- Better artist info. Photos and bios from the best source for each artist (TheAudioDB, Deezer, and Wikipedia as a checked last resort), with manual lookup. Stylised names like "h x m x d" stay one artist. (#77, #83, #84)
- Smarter downloads. Original quality by default, reversed "Song - Artist" titles detected and fixed, correct SoundCloud artists, and "feat." credits in the right place. (#66, #77)
✨ New since 2.1.4
- Album grid, Spotify style. Covers show with nothing over them: no play button, badge or gradient. Hovering a cover darkens it and shows a play icon, and clicking it plays the release. The name and details open the release, and the release type moved into the details line ("Single • 1 track • 2021"). The Artists grid uses the same play icon. (#88)
- Missing album covers are back. An album whose newest-added song had no embedded cover showed none; the cover now comes from the first track that has one. On the web app, album covers never loaded; they do now, including covers found online. (#88)
- Recap story rebuilt. The story fits the screen again, as a proper story viewer. (#86)
- Recap page: clean session covers, and you can play or save sessions, top artists and genres. (#87)
- Full-screen switch: the canvas keeps playing and the cover never stretches when you switch between the player and lyrics. (#86)
⚠️ Good to know
- Download format: it now defaults to Original (the source audio, no re-encoding) if you never picked one. Choose MP3 once on the Download page if you prefer it.
- Your data: your library, likes, playlists, history and settings carry over from 2.x. Nothing to do.
