2.13.0 is another big one. Discover now shows what's charting and explains why each recommendation is there. Aurral has one consistent look and one Settings window for everyone, shared playlists stay in sync, and flows can show you their picks before downloading anything. You can also download from Tidal through Tidarr and back up Aurral to a single file.
What's new
- Open Trending from Discover for a charts page with top songs, albums, artists, and a chart for each genre. It needs no account or API key, follows your server's country, and shows chart movement from the second day. Save as playlist turns the songs chart into a synced playlist.
- Recommended has its own page. For you groups picks by why they showed up, like "Because you like" an artist, "Close to home", and "Further out". All is one sortable list. Cards say "like Slowdive" or "via Grouper" instead of a match percentage.
- New users get a full Discover on day one, seeded from the charts until their own taste takes over. Import your Spotify listening history in Settings > Listening > Spotify to jump-start recommendations. Imported plays only shape recommendations, and they never show in your history or get scrobbled. Each user can also connect Last.fm, ListenBrainz, and Koito together, and Discover merges them.
- Block a genre from the Blocklist page or with Block genre in a genre page's menu. Blocked genres stay out of your recommendations and flows. Artists already in your Library are never hidden.
- Aurral has a new look. One type scale, a true black theme, and color that comes from the artwork, with Immersive mode on by default. Pick List, 1:1, or 16:9 for the shows and news rails in Customize Discover.
- Settings is one window that opens over the page you're on, for everyone. Regular users can now set their own password and connect Last.fm or ListenBrainz scrobbling.
- Shared playlists stay in sync. When you import one, choose Keep synced to pick up the sender's new tracks each day, or Import once. Import from Import playlist > Aurral share with a full aurral.org link or just the share code. Stopping a track, album, or artist share ends file access right away, but the link keeps working with details and previews.
- Turn off Download automatically in a flow's menu to see what it picks before downloading anything. Preview tracks, download the ones you like, or refresh for a new list. Flows also run with no download source set up.
- Flow tags and release years now filter every source, not only Focus. Start a tag with a minus to leave it out, so
hip hop, -christmaskeeps the hip hop and drops the holiday music. The flow editor now starts with the schedule, gives each source its own track count, and calls Deep Dive Deeper cuts. - Playlists and flows get generated covers built from artist photos, or a simple color-and-text style. You can upload, regenerate, or restore a cover, and imported playlists keep their original artwork.
- Albums that aren't out yet show Download when it's out. Aurral monitors them and searches on the release date instead of grabbing whatever shows up early.
- Library artwork prefers the art in your own files and is kept on disk, so covers load fast and don't depend on a provider being up. For albums in Aurral's own folder, covers are saved as
cover.jpgnext to the tracks so Navidrome shows them too. Change artwork writes there as well and keeps any existing cover ascover-original.jpg. Lidarr and read-only folders are never written to. - More metadata without API keys. Subsonic clients get lyrics from LRCLIB when a track has none, artists without a photo can get one from Wikidata, and artist pages fall back to Deezer for similar artists. Recent & upcoming releases now includes new releases from your recommended artists.
- Download from Tidal through Tidarr in Settings > Downloads. It needs Tidarr 1.2.9 or later. Each Prowlarr indexer can now pick which download client gets its releases.
- Admins can download a backup and restore it in Settings > General > Backup. The backup is one zip with your settings, users, playlists, flows, history, and custom artwork. Restoring restarts Aurral and keeps the replaced data in
/config/before-restore-<date>. In Docker, a restart policy likeunless-stoppedbrings Aurral back on its own. - Activity's Queue and History swap the search box for status tabs such as Searching, Failed, and Upgraded. Upgrades of files you already own are marked, along with the quality being replaced.
- Set the API key with the
AURRAL_API_KEYenvironment variable if you manage Aurral declaratively.
Fixes worth noticing
- Saving a setting no longer quietly undoes a flow run, a playlist sync, or other settings changed in the background.
- Renaming a playlist or editing one from a Subsonic client no longer hangs for a minute while a flow picks tracks.
- Quality upgrades no longer crash Aurral with "database is locked".
- Deleting an artist with its files now deletes every file, so the artist doesn't come back on the next scan when a playlist used one of them.
- One rate-limited album no longer pauses BrainzMash metadata for up to a week. Upgrading clears a pause that's already stuck.
- Library scans link the right MusicBrainz artist when several share a name, and "Nevermind (Remastered)" matches "Nevermind". Deezer no longer matches "Low" to "Lowkey".
- Nearby shows work outside the US, cover your whole radius instead of the nearest 50 miles, and reach the Inbox again.
- A play counts once you've heard half the track or 4 minutes, like Last.fm, instead of only at the very end.
- Google sign-in and account linking work again, and SSO sign-in no longer shows the "Choose a Downloads Folder" banner when the folder is set.
- Subsonic responses follow the classic Subsonic spec as well as OpenSubsonic. Compilation tracks report their real artists, double-encoded IDs from clients like webOS Subsonic Player work, and turned-off flows are hidden.
- With slskd 0.26.2, Aurral says when its API key needs the administrator role instead of failing downloads with a missing file. Files slskd renamed as duplicates import correctly.
- Refreshing an artist searches the right artist in Lidarr.
- Settings > Status > Storage warns when your Downloads Folder isn't in any Jellyfin music library, which is why Jellyfin playlists showed up empty.
- The "Playlist startup migration" task no longer fails on every restart.
- Playlist tracks that can't play now show whether they're queued, downloading, or missing.
- Aurral checks what Lidarr, slskd, Prowlarr, MusicBrainz, BrainzMash, Deezer, and Plex send before using it, so one odd record gets skipped instead of breaking a page.
- Logs show file paths and URLs again. Passwords, tokens, and keys stay masked.
Things to try
- Open Trending from Discover and save the songs chart as a playlist.
- Turn off Download automatically on a flow, refresh it a couple of times, and download only the tracks you like.
- Block a genre you never want to see from its genre page, then check Recommended.
- Share a playlist with a friend and have them import it with Keep synced.
- Download a backup from Settings > General > Backup and keep it somewhere safe.
A few things change on upgrade. Retired Last.fm editorial flows become regular playlists with the same name and tracks. The JSON playlist import and Export tracklist are gone, replaced by Aurral shares. Old bookmarks to Settings or Profile pages no longer open a specific section.
