Road Rash 64 Recompiled 1.4.0 adds new race options and an optional MK64 course importer, with fixes collected during testing.
- Optional MK64 tracks: import all 16 courses from your own supported MK64 USA ROM through Settings → Mods → MK64 Race Pack. Includes course previews, scenery, hazards and sound effects. Imported tracks remain experimental.
- MK64 music and item boxes: each course can play its original music, including during highlights. The choice is remembered. Question boxes award weapons or timed ×2/×4 attack multipliers.
- Crash highlights: watch major player and AI crashes from different angles with slow motion. Press A to continue; online, the host controls this.
- More Thrash options and offline cheats: solo Thrash gains custom race settings. The new Cheats tab offers optional health/bike protection, bike unlocks and starting weapons; cheats are disabled online.
- Race, menu and pacing fixes: special-bike and purchased-bike selection, remembered characters, lap/recovery handling, Bike Shop framing, highlight detail/audio, controller routing and avoidable frame-timing waits.
- Optional texture mod included: an RT64 conversion of Crisaty (Cristian A.T.)’s Remastered Edition pack is in
optional-mods. Install its RTZ from Mods. Achievement badges are unchanged.
You must provide your own supported Road Rash 64 USA v1.0 ROM. MK64 importing additionally requires your own supported Mario Kart 64 USA ROM. Downloads contain neither ROM nor extracted course meshes, textures or audio. Imported assets are created locally. Existing badge/launcher artwork and the credited optional texture mod remain included.
Draw Distance: 100% can load the entire Road Rash map—including all its race areas. 50–60% is the recommended starting point. Dense distant geometry can reduce performance, especially in split screen.
Online remains experimental. All players need compatible protocol-57 builds and the same enabled, locally imported track pack. Corrected RC4/RC5/RC6 packs remain compatible; RC3 or older packs need Reimport MK64 ROM before Start Game.
Downloads: Windows x64, experimental Linux x86-64 AppImage, and matching source. Both platform downloads include the texture mod and native MK64 importer. No Python or compiler installation is needed to import tracks. Linux gameplay and hardware compatibility still need broader community testing.
