MoonlightWeb v0.2.3 — install from your package manager, no more stuck keys
Deprecated: this version reaches the Internet through a per-machine sub-domain and certificate whose DNS service shuts down in February 2027 — after that date only local network streaming keeps working, so install the latest release, which needs neither.
A release about getting the app onto the gaming PC without fighting the operating system, and about the one bug that could leave a key pressed on the host. MoonlightWeb streams your Sunshine gaming PC to any device with a browser — you still install one app on the gaming PC only; every other device just opens a URL.
Installation
- One command on macOS and Linux —
curl -fsSL https://moonlightweb.top/install.sh | bashdetects the system and picks the right route: the package manager where there is one, the portable AppImage where there is not. - Homebrew, with no Gatekeeper warning —
brew install --cask linckosz/tap/moonlightweb. The.pkgis not notarized (that needs a paid Apple Developer ID), so a downloaded one is refused as "from an unidentified developer". Gatekeeper keys off the attribute your browser sets, and Homebrew hands the very same file to the system installer — the warning never appears. - Signed APT and DNF repositories — add them once and it is
apt install moonlightwebordnf install moonlightwebfrom then on, with updates arriving through your system updater instead of a banner. Published at linckosz.github.io/moonlight-web, signed end to end: anInReleasefor apt, a signedrepomd.xmlplus per-package signatures for dnf. - It shows up in your software centre — GNOME Software, KDE Discover and Ubuntu's App Center list MoonlightWeb like any other application, with description, screenshots and icon. They index AppStream metadata rather than the package list, so this needed a real metainfo file and a compiled index, not just a menu entry.
- Arch, Manjaro, EndeavourOS —
paru -S moonlightweb-bin(oryay), from the AUR. - SteamOS, Bazzite and other immutable systems keep the AppImage, which the one-liner downloads and sets up for you.
Streaming & input
- A frozen link no longer leaves keys pressed on the host — the input channel is ordered and reliable, so a stall does not lose events, it delays them: a press that already landed stayed down for the whole freeze, and the host's key repeat turned one keystroke into dozens (a 2 s hiccup mid-sentence produced around 45 letters instead of one). Nothing the client sent could fix it, since the correction rode the same blocked queue. The host now runs a dead-man switch: while anything is held the client heartbeats its full input state, and silence releases what is still down — 250 ms for ordinary keys, deliberately before the repeat delay so no repeat is ever generated, 3 s for held actions. Every heartbeat doubles as a resync, so a key released mid-stall but genuinely still held comes straight back, and a link that never returns no longer strands anything pressed.
Admin
- The local address is one other machines can actually reach — on a PC with Hyper-V, the admin page advertised the virtual "Default Switch" address (192.168.32.1), which nothing on your network can open. Interfaces are now ranked properly — the one carrying the default route first, then adapters with a gateway, then the rest — and the page lists every candidate rather than betting on one.
Settings
- Touch-only settings stay on touch devices — "Touch Screen Mode" and "Pointer Sensitivity" appeared on any laptop with a digitizer, next to its trackpad, while only ever affecting the touch path. They are now shown on phones and tablets only; values you had saved are untouched.
Downloads
Install on the gaming PC only. The quickest route on macOS and Linux is the one-liner above — it also sets up the repository, so updates come with the system:

Playing from a phone, tablet or TV? Nothing to download — just open your server's URL in the browser.
Requirements
- A gaming PC running Sunshine (the installer can set it up for you).
- A modern browser on the client device (Chrome/Edge recommended for full codec, HDR and WebGPU support).
- On Linux, a distribution no older than Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12 or Fedora 36 — Qt and OpenSSL are bundled, the system C runtime never can be.
