Playden for PS5 0.8.0-beta.1

pre-release6 hours ago

The first beta of 0.8.0. Games shared by your Steam family now show in your Library, you can choose the fastest Steam download server, and leftover PS5 titles can be deleted from Storage. Saved sign-ins no longer expire about a day after a QR sign-in. Same runtime kit as 0.7.0 (0.13). The kit is not attached here: Playden downloads it from 0.7.0 when it needs it, and playden-kit-0.13.zip there is the file for a manual kit install.

Warning

Beta of alpha software. Betas can have new bugs. Playden signs in to your real Steam account and reads and writes your Steam Cloud saves. Read Before you use it first.

Downloads

File What it is
playden-ps5-0.8.0-beta.1.zip The Playden app (FAKE77031), the console tools (tools/) and the license files.
playden-update.json Used by Playden to update itself and to find its kit. You don't need to download it.

Getting the beta from 0.7.0, 0.7.1, 0.7.2 or a 0.7.1 beta: turn on Settings › Updates › Beta updates. Playden checks again at once and offers 0.8.0-beta.1 (39 MB, app only; the kit stays). If Beta updates is already on, it is offered at start or from Settings › Updates › Check now. Your sign-in, games, saves and Game settings are kept. You can turn Beta updates off again at any time: Playden keeps the beta until 0.8.0 or newer is out, then updates as usual.

Updating from 0.6.0: Playden offers only stable versions until you turn on Beta updates, so update to 0.7.2 first (see its notes), or install this beta by hand.

New install: copy the FAKE77031 folder to /data/homebrew/ (see the README). On its first start Playden offers to download the runtime kit.

What's new

  • Steam Families. Games another member of your Steam family shares with you now show in the Library with a "Family" badge and install like your own. When you also own a game, your own license is used. Sort and filters › Family sharing hides them (on by default, like Demos). Playden does not take Steam's one-player-at-a-time lock for a shared game. (#9, #80)
  • Choose the download server. Settings › Downloads › Download server lists Default (the server Steam lists first) and the Steam content servers available to you. Test servers measures each one, so you can pick the fastest. (#97)
  • Delete leftover PS5 titles. Settings › Storage › Leftover PS5 titles lists Playden titles that no game uses any more, with their size. Select them and delete them; their Home tiles go too, and game files and saves are kept. Deletions run through the Queue and pick up again after a restart. (#171)
  • About names the runtime kit in use and its version, and says which kit this version expects if a different one is installed.

Fixed

  • Signed out about a day after signing in. After a QR sign-in, the first renewal of Steam access sent the wrong request, Steam refused it, and Playden signed out. Access is now renewed through the Steam connection, as the Steam client does.
  • Fallout 2 failed to install with "Downloaded content failed verification" before anything downloaded. Its two depots hold master.dat as an empty folder and as the game file. The file now wins, as on Steam; other games with the same kind of clash install too.
  • Uninstalling showed "Play" with a growing percentage. The game page now shows "Uninstalling" with progress, or "Uninstall queued". (#165)

Known issues

  • Family sharing has been tried with one family so far. If a shared game does not show or install, send the /data/playden/logs folder: steam-cm.log has family lines for it.
  • Otherwise the same as in 0.7.1 (see its notes).

Thanks
