github leolobato/playden-ps5 v0.7.1
Playden for PS5 0.7.1

Small fixes around stability and installation. Gets Playden ready for ProsperoStore, where its title becomes PPSA97031. Same runtime kit as 0.7.0 (0.13).

Warning

Alpha software. Playden signs in to your real Steam account and reads and writes your Steam Cloud saves. Read Before you use it first.

Downloads

File What it is
playden-ps5-0.7.1.zip The Playden app (FAKE77031), the console tools (tools/) and the license files.
playden-kit-0.13.zip Runtime kit 0.13, the same as in 0.7.0: Wine for the PS5, graphics drivers (DXVK and vkd3d-proton), Wine Mono, video and audio decoding, the Windows environment and the per-game app shell, with SOURCES.md and LICENSES/. Playden downloads it by itself; you need this file only to install the kit by hand.
playden-update.json Used by Playden to update itself and to find its kit. You don't need to download it.

Updating from 0.7.0 or a 0.7.1 beta: Playden offers the update the next time it starts, or from Settings › Updates › Check now. Only the app is downloaded; the kit stays. Your sign-in, games, saves and Game settings are kept. If you turned on Beta updates for the betas, you can turn it off again now.

Updating from 0.6.0: Playden offers the update the next time it starts, or from Settings › About › Playden updates › Check now. It updates the app and the kit together (a 469 MB download). Make sure console storage has at least 8 GB free first (PS5 Settings › Storage). Your sign-in, games, saves and Game settings are kept.

Updating from 0.5.0 or older: update to 0.6.0 first (see its notes), then let Playden update itself to 0.7.1.

New install: copy the FAKE77031 folder to /data/homebrew/ (see the README). On its first start Playden offers to download the runtime kit; you can sign in while it downloads.

Fixed

  • "A PS5 title could not be reserved" for every game (#133). Before Playden uses a PS5 title for a game, it checks that no program on the console is running that title. A program that runs without a title ID, such as some loaded payloads, made that check fail, so no game could be prepared. Such programs are now known not to be games.
  • "Root access is missing" after copying Playden by hand. Some FTP clients and browser uploads leave out empty folders. Without the empty logs and playden-data folders in its app folder, Playden stopped before it asked for root access. It now starts anyway and makes the two folders again.
  • The update offer and "What's new" closed by themselves. Both often open at startup, before your games have loaded, and closed when the library arrived. Now only dialogs about a game close.

Changed

  • The first screen says what went wrong. When Playden can't start, the screen names the step that failed: the app folder is incomplete, the ELF loader isn't answering on port 9021, the ELF loader stopped while it received the root helper, the root helper could not give access (load kstuff), or the console's network did not start. Each comes with what to try. The startup error under it is still the line to quote in a report.
  • Installed outside console storage. Playden runs only from /data/homebrew/. A copy started from another folder or drive stopped on a black screen. It now opens on "Install Playden on console storage", which names the folder and says what to do.
  • Updates find an unchanged runtime kit in an earlier release. A release whose kit did not change can leave it out. Until now, a console without that kit could not install such an update ("missing a download"). Playden now takes the kit from the newest earlier release that has it. This helps the next updates: an update is installed by the version you are running.
  • Steam sign-in names the console's machine. Saved sign-ins kept stopping about 24 hours after signing in. Playden now sends the same machine ID when you sign in as when it logs on to Steam later. This may fix it; if your saved sign-in still stops working after a day, please say so in a report.
  • Ready for the move to ProsperoStore. From 0.8.0, Playden's title becomes PPSA97031, the kind of ID ProsperoStore can install and update. 0.7.1 can make that move when 0.8.0 is out: it installs the new app next to this one, keeps your sign-in, games, saves and settings, opens the new app and removes the old tile. Nothing moves before 0.8.0.
  • Recipes for Scott Pilgrim EX and BRAZILIAN DRUG DEALER BEFORE 4 ship with Playden, so both play with default settings (#157). Game recipes in Playden's repository are now released under CC0 1.0, so anyone can reuse them.
  • Cloud save and download failures in the log now include curl's error code (#155).

What works

See the compatibility list. New since 0.7.0:

  • Works: 171 (#128), BRAZILIAN DRUG DEALER BEFORE 4 (#157), Fallout Shelter (#152), Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT (with -nolauncher, at 1080p or lower; #126), Half-Life (#139), Hollow Knight: Silksong (#138), Left 4 Dead (#147), Lethal Company (LAN play; #141), Scott Pilgrim EX (#157), SULFUR (#131), Terraria (#151), Wartales (#154).
  • Updated: Fallout: New Vegas now plays with default settings (#130). Half-Life 2, Portal, Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 were confirmed on kit 0.13, with the Button mapping that makes their menus work (#142, #143, #144, #146). Tomb Raider's launcher needs a USB mouse; the game then plays with the DualSense (#11).
  • Broken: Garry's Mod (its menu is drawn by a helper program, #145, #160), Scrap Mechanic (needs a signed-in Steam session, #156).

Test reports are welcome, including for games that work.

Known issues

  • Online play doesn't work. Games find no servers or say Steam is offline (#115).
  • Games that start another program don't start, such as launchers, pre-launchers and games whose interface is drawn by a helper program (BeamNG.drive, Garry's Mod). The runtime can't start a second program yet (#52).
  • Some Direct3D 12 games say the GPU is not supported, even with Direct3D 12 = vkd3d-proton (#118).
  • Some games stop at start before drawing a frame (#117), or because of unaligned shared sections in their program (#116).
  • With a USB mouse, the view barely turns left or right in some games, such as Hitman 2 (#119).
  • Games that use Windows.Gaming.Input don't notice a disconnected controller (#106).
  • VRR at 120 Hz: for 120 Hz output, turn off the PS5's VRR › Apply to Unsupported Games (#98).
  • Game titles can't be deleted over FTP or with a file manager. Uninstall games from Playden. A title left behind after Playden lost its record can be deleted from Settings › Storage in 0.8.0 (#171).
