Direct3D 12 games now run, through vkd3d-proton in kit 0.11: Cyberpunk 2077, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection, Deep Rock Galactic and more. This release also adds sign-in with an account name and password, a setting for slow downloads and an Installed games list for freeing up space, and fixes many install and storage problems.
Warning
Alpha software. Playden signs in to your real Steam account and reads and writes your Steam Cloud saves. Read Before you use it first.

Updating from 0.4.0: Playden offers the update the next time it starts, or from Settings › About › Playden updates › Check now. It updates the app and the kit together. Your sign-in, games, saves and Game settings are kept, and games you prepared need no Recreate bottle: they update their runtime the next time you press Play. For a new install, follow the README.
Important
Before updating from 0.4.0, make sure console storage has at least 8 GB free (PS5 Settings › Storage). The update unpacks a new kit next to the old one, and the PS5 itself needs 5 GB. Playden 0.4.0 doesn't check, and an update with less room can restart the console before it finishes; Playden 0.4.0 then still works and offers the update again. Uninstall a game or move it to another drive first if you are short.
What's new
- Direct3D 12 games. Kit 0.11 adds vkd3d-proton. Playden turns it on for games that only use Direct3D 12. Unity and Unreal games ask for Direct3D 12 when you set Game settings › Direct3D 12 = vkd3d-proton. Cyberpunk 2077, Machinarium, CULTIC, Deep Rock Galactic, MULLET MADJACK, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection and Mina the Hollower run this way.
- More memory for big 64-bit games. Games that reserve tens of GB at start-up, such as Cyberpunk 2077, get past it.
- Sign in with your account name and password instead of the QR code, typed with the PS5 keyboard. Steam Guard approval in the Steam app works, or you can type a code (#65).
- Downloads for slow networks (Settings › Storage): fetches more pieces of a game at once. Turn it on if downloads crawl at about 1 MB/s (#29).
- Installed games (Settings › Storage): every installed game with its size and drive, sorted by size or by when you last played. Pick several and uninstall them together.
- Windows Installer packages that games need (PhysX for Bullet Witch, for example) install on the first Play.
- Graphics picked for more engines: HashLink games (Dead Cells) get DXVK, XNA games (Celeste) and Java games OpenGL, without changing Game settings.
- Upload all saves to a new account: when a Steam account has none of your saves yet, the Saves tab uploads them all at once.
Fixed
- Console storage filling up: console storage now keeps back the space the PS5 needs for itself, so downloads stop before Playden can no longer save its own data. When console storage is full anyway, the sign-in screen says so and opens Installed games, instead of retrying "Account storage is unavailable" forever. An install drive choice that couldn't be saved now says so.
- Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection made Playden crash while preparing it. Large copy-protected programs are now unpacked a piece at a time.
- Slay the Spire didn't install ("depot key refused"): a depot the account can't get is now left out. Games started through a launch option with no working folder now start in the game's folder, as on Steam, so it finds its files.
- Severed Steel stopped at once ("-d3d12, -d3d11 … are mutually exclusive"): a launch option's graphics switch no longer clashes with the one Playden adds.
- A game installed again on another drive kept its PS5 title for the old folder and couldn't start. Play now prepares it again on the new drive and keeps its saves.
- Cloud saves synced when you pressed Play or opened the Saves tab, even with automatic sync off. They now only check.
- Quitting to Home while a game was being prepared cut the preparation off. Play now waits for it and says so.
- Redistributable installs no longer fail on damaged packages or on install scripts that carry Steam's signature block.
- Readiness dialogs appear on the game they're about, Clear completed removes every finished download, and an interrupted staging step retries instead of failing.
What works
See the compatibility list. New since 0.4.0:
- Works: Cyberpunk 2077, Machinarium, MULLET MADJACK, CULTIC, Deep Rock Galactic, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection, Mina the Hollower, Bullet Witch, ANIMAL WELL, UNDER DEFEAT, Return to Monkey Island, Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Celeste, Arctic Eggs, Caves of Qud, BULLET SOUL INFINITE BURST.
- Broken: Severed Steel (the campaign stays on a black screen), ARMORED CORE VI (Easy Anti-Cheat), Hi-Fi RUSH (Denuvo), Spec Ops: The Line, Singularity.
Test reports are welcome, including for games that work.
Known issues
- Slay the Spire and other libGDX games start only once per bottle. Later starts stop in Java's network-adapter lookup, which the PS5 runtime can't answer yet. Maintenance › Recreate bottle gets you one more start.
- Unity and Unreal games that offer Direct3D 12 still start on Direct3D 11 unless you set Game settings › Direct3D 12 = vkd3d-proton.
