Up to four people can play on one PS5, each with their own DualSense, and games can show PlayStation buttons. A game's launcher can now start the game, Project Zomboid plays, and USB games keep starting from PS5 Home after your drives change places. A new Runtimes tab updates many games to the newest version of the runtime kit at once, and the web page gets a Files tab for a game's saves and files. New runtime kit 0.19 brings four controllers, NW.js games, better rumble, the USB drive search, and fixes for games that started only once.

| The Playden app (the FAKE77031 folder), the console tools (tools/), the README, the compatibility list and the license files.
|
playden-kit-0.19.zip
| Runtime kit 0.19. Playden downloads it by itself; you need this file only to install the kit by hand. |
playden-update.json
| Used by Playden to update itself and to find its kit. You don't need to download it. |
Updating from 0.6.0 or newer: Playden offers the update the next time it starts, or from Settings › Updates › Check now. It updates the app and runtime kit 0.19 (473 MB). Make sure console storage has at least 8 GB free first (PS5 Settings › Storage). Your sign-in, games, saves and Game settings are kept.
After the update: Playden asks once whether to update your games to the new runtime kit, and says how many. This takes about 30 seconds per game and downloads nothing from Steam. If you choose Later, they stay on the Runtimes tab of Manage installed games, and Play updates a game's runtime kit first. Until then, games keep running on their old kit from PS5 Home.
Updating from 0.5.0 or older: update to 0.6.0 first (see its notes), then let Playden update itself.
New install: unzip playden-ps5-0.10.0.zip into a folder of its own and copy the FAKE77031 folder to /data/homebrew/ (see the README). On its first start Playden offers to download the runtime kit; you can sign in while it downloads.
What's new
- Up to four controllers. Each signed-in PS5 user's DualSense is now its own controller, so couch co-op and split screen work. Sign in a PS5 user or a guest for each controller, then start the game. (#221)
- PlayStation controller. Game settings › Controller has a new choice that shows the game a DualShock 4, so games that pick their prompts from the controller show PlayStation buttons. Games that only read Xbox controllers see no controller in this mode, so Xbox controller stays the default. (#159)
- Start a game through its launcher. Game settings › Start through a launcher lets a launcher's Play button start the game. It's off by default, because a game that starts helper programs could restart or close. Hold the touchpad for 2 seconds to switch between the launcher's controller preset and yours. If a game's last run couldn't start a program in its folder, its next start offers "Turn on and play". (#52)
- Project Zomboid plays. It used to quit about 20 seconds after it started, because it watched more folders than a PS5 title can keep open. Press Play in Playden once so it gets its fix. (#194)
- USB games follow your drives. After a game's runtime kit update, it finds its drive when it starts, so swapped drives no longer show "Drive disconnected", even from PS5 Home with Playden closed. With the drive unplugged, the game waits and continues when you plug it back in. (#620)
- Runtimes tab. Settings › Storage › Manage installed games has a new Runtimes tab that updates many games to the newest version of the runtime kit at once, shows them in Queue, and stops before console storage drops below 8 GB. When Play has to update a game's runtime kit first, Playden asks whether to start it once it's ready. (#401)
- Files tab on the web page. Settings › Web access lets you browse each game's saves and folders from a browser: download, upload whole folders, replace, restore, delete, and edit text files. You pair the browser with a code shown on the TV.
- Choose your DLC. The install sheet has a DLC picker, and a game offers launch options for the DLC you installed.
- Play with detailed logs. Game actions has a new choice that collects more detail for a test report.
- Playden says which program starts. When Steam's default program only opens a launcher, Playden starts the game's own program, and the game's page now says which one, so a wrong guess is easy to change in Game settings › Program. (#687)
- Frame rate for Direct3D 12 games. Game settings › Performance overlay now works for games on vkd3d-proton. They show only the frame rate.
- All eight USB drive slots work for imports, installs and folder repair.
- Sharper icons for small program icons on new PS5 Home tiles.
New in runtime kits 0.18 and 0.19 (prospero-win)
- Four controllers through XInput, from @7tg's work upstream (#713, #714), and through the HID gamepad APIs that DirectInput and SDL games use.
- NW.js games start, 64-bit and 32-bit, including RPG Maker MV and MZ games. (#114)
- DualSense rumble feels right. Short pulses stay felt, weak rumble is a little stronger, and L2 and R2 no longer vibrate with it. (#283)
- USB drive search and a wait screen. The title finds a USB game's drive itself. (#620)
- Drive letters and free space. Games get a proper drive list and the real free space, which Prototype's first start needs. (#575)
- The pointer stays on the picture in games that set a display mode, such as Spider-Man 2 at 1024x768. (#626)
- OpenAL Soft 1.25.2 comes with the kit, for games that link to it without shipping it.
- Launchers see the real video memory, so they no longer warn about a card with 0 MB.
Fixed
- Some games started only once, then failed until the PS5 restarted. The game looked for its files in a fixed sandbox folder, and it now uses the one the console gave it. (#300)
- Guncraft started its dedicated server. Its own program was taken for a .NET launcher. XNA games now start their own program. (#576)
- Some large games couldn't install with "response_too_large": their file list is bigger than 16 MB. Playden now downloads it. (#451)
- One unreadable save file stopped Recreate bottle from bringing back the other saves. The others now come back, and the kept copy stays for the one that couldn't. (#569)
- A refused environment variable showed no reason, because the notice was cut off. It now shows the reason and the names you can use. (#480)
- OpenGL games that close a window and open another stayed on their loading screen, such as Balatro and other LÖVE games. (#377)
- Games that play music through DirectShow had no music, such as Fallout: New Vegas and Hard Truck 2. (#319)
- The Evil Within hung at its legal screen, and its sequel's demo closed at once. (#116)
- An update could stop at Restart Playden with no message after a hand install. (#466)
- A new install could show CE-107750-0 when an FTP copy lost the execute bit. (#590)
- Deleting a game's program folder made every later settings change fail. You can now choose another program.
- "Needs PhysX" went back to Ready after a restart. It now stays, and says which version is missing.
- Imported games could show "Steam game N" on PS5 Home. New imports are named before they register.
- Steam account IDs and other personal details no longer appear in shared logs.
Games to test
These games should work now, or better than before. Please try them and say how it goes on the linked issue, or open a test report if there is none. Reports that a game works are just as welcome.
- Couch games with two to four players, such as DOOM + DOOM II, Cuphead, Unrailed!, Overcooked and Blur: each player should have their own controller and rumble. (#221)
- Games with a launcher, such as Batman: Arkham City, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout: New Vegas and Amnesia: The Dark Descent: the launcher's Play should start the game. (#52)
- Project Zomboid: should keep running past the first 20 seconds. (#194)
- Buckshot Roulette, Hatred, The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+ and Half-Life: should start more than once. (#300)
- Look Outside, Alabaster Dawn, Game Dev Tycoon and other NW.js games: should start. (#114)
- Guncraft: should start the game, not its server. Not tested on a console. (#576)
- Solo Leveling: ARISE OVERDRIVE and other games with a very large file list: should install. Not tested on a console. (#451)
- Prototype, The Evil Within, Balatro, Fallout: New Vegas (music): see Fixed. (#575, #116, #377, #319)
Known issues
- Online play doesn't work. Games find no servers or say Steam is offline (#115).
- OMORI opens a black window, and CrossCode crashes at start (#114).
- The Evil Within 2 still returns to the console at start (#623).
- Icons and names of games already set up don't change on PS5 Home, such as "Steam game N" on an imported game (#622).
- TowerFall Ascension stays on a black screen at start.
- Games whose launcher must keep running don't start, such as FINAL FANTASY VII (2013) and games that need the EA app, the Rockstar Games Launcher or Ubisoft Connect. Neither do games whose interface is drawn by a helper program (#52).
- A controller that joins while a game runs isn't seen by games that use Windows.Gaming.Input and only look when they start.
- Some Direct3D 12 games still don't run (#118):
- Some games stop at start before drawing a frame (#117).
- VRR at 120 Hz: for 120 Hz output, turn off the PS5's VRR › Apply to Unsupported Games (#98).
