⚠️ Before you update
- Requires Home Assistant 2026.10.0 or later. You don't need to sign in again when updating an existing setup. (#1051, #1055)
- Entries titled "Google Home (master_token)" or "Google Home (browser)" are renamed to your Google account's email address when it can be retrieved. Custom names are preserved. (#1068)
- Unused app passwords are cleared from the integration's saved settings when a master token in the expected format is present. Existing backups are unchanged. (#1068)
- Device names no longer start with "Google Home", unless you renamed them, so a speaker may share its name with its Google Cast device. Entity IDs don't change, but friendly names no longer repeat the device name: "Google Home Kitchen Kitchen alarms" becomes "Kitchen Alarms". Dashboards and history that show default names show the shorter ones. Devices that Google no longer lists keep their old names until you delete them. (#1070, #1072)
- Default device names now match the Google Home app, including speaker-pair names: a pair that was named after one of its speakers gets the pair's name, such as "Den speakers". Custom device names and existing entity IDs are preserved. (#1074)
✨ Highlights
🔐 Sign in with your browser. Setup now asks how to sign in: browser sign-in (recommended) or a master token you already have. Browser sign-in needs only the oauth_token cookie from a desktop browser. The integration exchanges it for a master token itself, so you no longer need Python scripts or Docker images to get one. Signing in with an app password is removed, because Google now rejects it for many accounts. See Getting Started. (#1065, #1067)
📚 New documentation site at https://ha-google-home.pages.dev/, with setup steps, every entity and action, automation examples and troubleshooting. It also explains which devices the integration adds: Google speakers and displays, not the lights, plugs or thermostats from your Google Home app. (#1058, #1060, #1064, #1066)
🌐 Devices on another network. If mDNS can't reach your speakers and displays, for example on a separate VLAN or from a Home Assistant container without host networking, add their IP addresses as Known hosts under Configure. A speaker pair is found at its leading speaker. See Add devices on another network. (#774, #1074)
🐛 Bug Fixes
- 🗑️ Devices that you removed from the Google Home app or factory reset can now be deleted from Home Assistant, after reloading the integration. Devices that Google still lists are protected. (#1072)
- Devices without a discoverable IP address now remain listed instead of being omitted, and their device sensor shows as unavailable. @IoannisArmamentos (#1038, #1069)
- New entities get IDs like
sensor.kitchen_alarmsinstead of repeating the device name, as insensor.google_home_kitchen_kitchen_alarms. (#1070) google_home.delete_alarmandgoogle_home.delete_timerno longer fail whenskip_refreshis left out. @IoannisArmamentos (#1037)- Requests to Google now time out instead of waiting forever when Google doesn't answer. (#1061)
🈵 Translations
- 🇬🇷 New: Greek. @IoannisArmamentos (#1039)
- Wording fixes across all languages, and the new sign-in screens are translated into all 17 languages. (#1053, #1065)
📄 Documentation
- Clearer steps for finding the
oauth_tokencookie. @nikwilliamson (#1049) - Getting Started recommends a Gmail account for the integration, as Google Workspace accounts can't be members of a home. (#1071)
- Contributor guide moved to the docs site, and questions now go to GitHub Discussions. (#1062)
- Issue forms link to the docs and Discussions, and security problems can be reported privately. (#1063)
- Every docs pull request gets a preview link. (#1059)
🔧 Under the hood
- Adopted Home Assistant 2026.10's developer APIs, including
probatiofor schemas. (#1055, #1056) - Updated
glocaltokensto 0.10.0, and locked shared dependencies to Home Assistant's versions. (#1057, #1061, #1065, #1067) - Modernised CI, linting and developer tooling, and updated GitHub Actions through Dependabot. (#1050, #1052, #1054)
🙏 Thanks to @IoannisArmamentos and @nikwilliamson for their contributions!
