v0.17.1: Waitin' on a Sunny Day

CLBOSS v0.17.1 "Waitin' on a Sunny Day" is a maintenance release. It fixes the handling of splices and of peer blackouts, a crash during backups, and a duplicate channel open, and it changes how the rebalancer's grant is weighted. The requirements are those of v0.17.0: Core Lightning v26.04 or later, and the xrebalance plugin v0.4.5 or later.

Posts

Fixed

  • Splices. Core Lightning keeps a channel open and forwarding while its splice confirms. CLBOSS took that for one channel closing and another opening, and reset the channel's age, complaint history, and fee state; it now keeps them. Channels awaiting splice lock-in are counted where channels are summed, and a pending splice-out is deducted from the balance (#344, #345).
  • Peer blackouts. When every peer is unreachable at once (lightningd --offline, Tor down, a firewall), CLBOSS no longer counts that time against the peers; with clboss-auto-close it could close channels as they came back. While --offline is set, CLBOSS also stops connecting to peers, testing candidates, and opening channels (#346, #347).
  • Backups. Copying a live data.clboss with sqlite3 .backup or .dump could end CLBOSS, and lightningd with it. CLBOSS now waits up to ten seconds for the lock, and a commit that still fails is reported as an error instead of ending the process. "Backing up the CLBOSS database" in the README has the procedure (#335).
  • Duplicate channels. The channel creator could open a second channel to a peer it already had one with; it now checks a fresh listpeerchannels before any funds are planned, and a dual-funded open in progress counts as channeled (#332).
  • On-chain reserve. clboss-min-onchain is floored at 30000 sat, CLN's emergency reserve plus funding fees; below that every channel open failed. A leading "-" now parses as 0 instead of wrapping to a huge number (#340).
  • Candidate sampling. The popularity finder samples with A-ES instead of an A-Chao variant that let arrival order dominate the selection (#343).

Changed

  • The rebalancer's grant now fades out as a side's real forwarded volume grows: the credit is assumed earned on clboss-xrebalance-grant-weight percent of the peer's capacity (new dynamic option, default 25), and real forwards replace it one for one (#339).

Removed

  • The PeerJudge modules, an earnings-based channel closer that was compiled in but never instantiated (#336).

Upgrading from v0.17.0

Install and restart. Nothing needs setting, and no option was removed.

Credits

Thanks to the contributors to this release:

  • @Amperstrand: the on-chain reserve floor (#340) and the sampling fix (#343).
  • @tsjk: reported the duplicate channel open and supplied the log that showed it (#332).
  • @daywalker90: relayed the --offline report from the Core Lightning Telegram group (#346).
