Notes and subtasks everywhere, a follow-up from every finished task, and an assistant that can manage your goals

dayGLANCE 5.6.0 brings notes and subtasks into the New and Edit Task forms, lets you schedule a follow-up the moment you complete a task, and lets you create a project or pull Inbox tasks into one without leaving what you are doing. The PLANNER gets keyboard note editing and a tidier header, Goals & Projects gets a card size, and a project's or goal's notes now live in its linked Obsidian note. On desktop, the assistant integration (MCP) can now read and write goals, projects, areas and subtasks. JOBO, still experimental, comes to the phone. Everything here ships on desktop, Android and iOS unless a section says otherwise.

Tasks

  • Notes & subtasks in the New and Edit Task forms. Every task's form, on desktop and phone, has a "Notes & subtasks" button that opens the same panel as the sidebars: formatting, Shift+Enter, subtasks, and a linked Obsidian note where the task has one. It starts hidden and remembers your choice on this device; a dot on the button marks a task that has notes or subtasks.
  • Schedule a follow-up task. Completing a task now offers "Schedule follow-up task" in the toast beside Undo, and a completed task's context menu offers it too. The new task opens pre-filled with "Follow up:" and the title, the task's tags and colour, its project, and a link back to the finished task. A follow-up tag can be set in Settings.
  • Links to tasks open a preview. A dayGLANCE task link in a note opens a read-only preview of that task over whatever is open, with "Go to task".
  • Create a project from the task form. The project picker has "New project…": name it, optionally pick a goal, and it is created when the task is saved, so cancelling leaves nothing behind. The colour you pick for the task becomes the new project's colour.
  • A completed task's star is a plain mark. A starred task you finished keeps a filled star as a record; an unstarred one shows nothing, rather than an outline inviting you to star finished work.
  • Toasts stay while you read them. A toast under the pointer or focus stays until you leave it, and the undo toast no longer covers the Refocus timeline buttons.

Projects, goals and the PLANNER

  • Add from Inbox. A project card's header can add Inbox tasks to the project in one go: tick them in a list (a filter appears once there are more than six) and they take the project and its colour. One Undo reverses the lot.
  • New tasks land on top. Quick-add in the PLANNER and on a project card puts the new task at the top of Unscheduled. In the PLANNER, "Send to bottom" is offered for 15 seconds.
  • PLANNER, reorganised. The "Add a task" field sits above the task lists, so it is in reach on a long project. The Scheduled and Completed toggles and a new hyperGLANCE button are in the header. hyperGLANCE's settings open in the notes panel's place on a wide screen, or as their own page on a phone.
  • Keyboard notes in the PLANNER. With the notes sidebar open, E puts the cursor in the selected task's note, and Shift+Enter saves it and hands the keyboard back to the list, so the arrow keys move on at once.
  • Card size for Goals & Projects. Small, Normal, Large or Larger, per device, from the space's toolbar or Settings. Larger cards fit fewer across. The Roadmap's Range buttons move to the same toolbar.
  • hyperGLANCE's switch looks like a switch in its settings, rather than an ON pill that read as a heading.

Obsidian

  • A project's or goal's notes live in its linked note. The notes box in dayGLANCE and the paragraph under the linked note's title are now one thing: dayGLANCE edits that section of the note in place. If the note changed in Obsidian since it was opened, dayGLANCE refuses to overwrite it, reloads the newer text and keeps your unsaved text beneath it. Existing notes boxes move into the note the first time, below the note's own text.
  • Link a note by typing its [[wikilink]] into a project's or goal's title, with or without the bridge plugin. The link leaves the title and the project is linked to that note.
  • A linked note in a folder is found. A project whose note lived in a folder could report "linked note not found" even though Open in Obsidian opened it.
  • "Create a note in Obsidian" needs the bridge plugin, and now says so, with the alternative of linking a note by its [[wikilink]], instead of silently doing nothing.
  • A hint about wikilinks in the task notes panel, where the vault is enabled, no note is linked and the task has no notes of its own yet.
  • Settings preview the daily-note path, and warn when the vault folder and the daily-notes folder setting would nest a second "Daily Notes" folder inside the first.
  • Lighter on GLANCEvault. A live update from the vault no longer fetches the same page twice, and live-triggered syncs on one device are spaced at least 20 seconds apart, so a busy household behind one address is far less likely to hit the vault's rate limit.
  • The bridge plugin is now 0.9.3: it resolves a bare [[Note]] link the way Obsidian does, wherever the note lives, and carries the description section. Update it in each vault.

AI

  • Current models, and a live model list. Google retired every built-in Gemini model, so Gemini features failed with "model not found". The built-in Gemini choices are now the stable 2.5 models (2.5 Flash by default), and Anthropic's are Sonnet 5.5 (recommended), Haiku 4.5, Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1.
  • Fetch model list in Settings asks the provider for its current models: Anthropic, Gemini, OpenAI, OpenRouter, custom endpoints and Ollama.
  • Type any model id. The model picker has an "Other" entry with a text field, and a saved id no list knows is shown there rather than silently replaced.
  • The briefing refresh buttons ignore repeat clicks while a briefing is loading, rather than sending parallel requests.

Assistant integration (MCP, desktop only)

  • Goals, projects, areas and subtasks. An assistant can now read and write goals, projects and subtasks, and list areas, following the app's own rules: a new goal takes its area's colour, a project its goal's, and a goal or project completes only when everything under it has. Nothing can be deleted or archived through the assistant; those stay your own steps. Every write can be undone.
  • A linked note's description. For a goal or project linked to an Obsidian note, the assistant reads and writes the description in the note itself, and refuses if the note changed since it was read.
  • More in every read. Assignees, inbox durations, the day's daily note, and the Bucket List. Events from calendar feeds show as read-only, and writes to them are refused.
  • Deadlines and priority on project tasks, as the app allows, and a task id from create_task keeps working after the Obsidian integration re-keys the task.
  • The tools reference is updated, and a new test suite drives the real listener with the official MCP client.

Phones and tablets

  • Back closes what is open. The back gesture now closes the PLANNER, the Bucket List and the task editor, one layer at a time, instead of leaving the app with them still open.
  • Closing MONTH's day sheet stays on Timeline, rather than jumping to the tab you were on before.
  • PLANNER's header toggles get their own row, so the project name is no longer squeezed to a few letters. "hyperGLANCE" is spelled out where the screen is wide enough.

Self-hosted

  • GLANCE integrations work over plain HTTP. A chore sent from lastGLANCE to a dayGLANCE served over HTTP on a local address failed, because browsers only offer the hashing it needs on secure connections. dayGLANCE now provides it itself, producing the same ids as a secure connection.

Experimental: JOBO

JOBO, plan versus actual, stays behind the Experimental switch in Settings and is off by default.

  • JOBO on the phone and portrait tablet. Plan and Do side by side on the timeline: one side wide with full cards, the other a narrow lane of bars at the same times; tap the lane or the divider to swap. A toggle in the date header shows both at half width. Add a Do by tapping an empty slot, edit one by tapping it, with Undo after each change. The Check and Statistics open as sheets. JOBO has its own switch in the phone's App Settings.
  • A plan gives way to its Do only once the task is done. An unfinished task keeps its plan block beside its Do, so what is still owed stays in sight. This changes past days as 5.5.0 showed them.
  • Today splits at the NOW line. In DAY, MULTI, WEEK and MONTH, a completed task's block turns into its Do once the block has ended.
  • The Check reviews the whole plan. A summary line says how many tasks from the day still need a next step, and a Not started group lists planned tasks nothing was recorded against, each with Continue, Move to Inbox (or its project) and Delete, with Undo.
  • Statistics for Day, Week, Month and All time, read-only, from the date header. Contributed by Lcub3d.
  • A Do badge on SCHED's cards shows the time recorded against a task, with its sessions and "Open in JOBO". On a finished task its plan history moves into the badge; on a phone the badge is a dot on the title line.
  • A Do card shows its details first in DAY and MULTI, and "Open in JOBO" opens at the Do's time.
  • JOBO draws at MULTI's hour, so a 15-minute card has room for its tags. The Do side's NOW line has its red dot.

Security

  • Two build-only advisories with no fix yet (braces via Tailwind, http-cache-semantics via electron-builder) are accepted in the audit gate, with a review date. Neither ships in the app.

Thanks

  • Lcub3d for JOBO's statistics view (#1919) and counting executions across ranges (#1970), and for the feedback on #1726 that shaped JOBO on the phone, the Not started group and the NOW-line rule.
