Notes that survive, bigger timelines, and a PLANNER you can read beside

dayGLANCE 5.5.0 keeps your own notes on calendar events through a refresh, lets the scrolling timelines grow, gives the PLANNER a notes sidebar and project tasks their own deadlines, and makes the Obsidian bridge refuse to lose writes. Polish and Ukrainian reach the widgets and notifications. Everything here ships on desktop, Android and iOS unless a section says otherwise.

Notes on calendar events

  • Your note on an event survives a calendar refresh. An event from a calendar feed (ICS or CalDAV) has its description rebuilt from the feed on every refresh, so anything typed into it was lost. The feed's description now shows read-only, and beneath it is your own note, kept on this device where a refresh cannot reach it.
  • The same editor as tasks. Calendar event notes now use the same editor as tasks, with formatting and Shift+Enter, in every view.
  • Events from this device's own calendar are unchanged. Their description is still the event's real notes, edited in place and written back to the device calendar.
  • Backups include the notes.

Timeline size

  • MULTI, WEEK and JOBO can be made bigger. Choose a size from 80% to 150% in Settings (WEEK starts at 100%), per view and per device. Ctrl and the scroll wheel, or a pinch, change it in place, and a small readout shows the level as it changes.
  • The view stays where you were looking. Magnifying holds the point under the pointer still, rather than jumping the scroll.

Projects and the PLANNER

  • A notes sidebar for the selected task, so you can read and edit a task's notes while planning the project around it.
  • Keyboard first. The PLANNER takes keyboard focus as it opens, arrow keys move the selection, and focus returns to it when the editor closes. Enter on a project in the Goals & Projects list opens its PLANNER.
  • Deadlines on unscheduled project tasks. A project card's unscheduled tasks, and the PLANNER's Unscheduled column, get the same deadline button as the Inbox. A deadline puts the task on the timeline on its due date, as an Inbox deadline does.

SCHED

  • Larger text and tap targets on task cards.

Obsidian

  • The bridge never deletes a change it cannot read. A desktop still holding an old pairing after a re-pair elsewhere could delete changes made on your other devices without saying anything. Plugin 0.9.2 holds such a change instead, says so, and stands down until it is paired again.
  • Every device can see every copy of the vault. The bridge panels now list "Copies of this vault", with the plugin version and pairing each one holds, and a red line naming any copy that has fallen behind.
  • A delivery check. If changes this device sent are still waiting while a copy is busy applying, the device now reports that copy is not applying them, rather than reading "Synced".
  • No more "can't reach your vault" message without Obsidian. It appeared when the app came back to the foreground, even with Obsidian sync switched off.
  • The bridge plugin is now 0.9.2. Update it in each vault.

Everywhere

  • The app keeps your view across the midnight reload. A view left open overnight used to wake up in the default view.
  • Messages about a clash name the event. Postpone's refusal always said "a calendar event", and the notice after a task slides past an event read "undefined". Both now name it.
  • Settings' view pickers wrap instead of running into the next column.
  • Android launcher shortcuts fit. The labels shown on a long press of the app icon were cut short with an ellipsis. The English ones now fit, and the rest are tracked.

Languages

  • Polish and Ukrainian on the home screen. The widgets, notifications and share targets on Android and iOS are now translated, completing what 5.4.0 began.
  • Simplified Chinese in the iOS widgets and system strings, contributed by Lcub3d.

Experimental: JOBO

JOBO, plan versus actual, stays behind the Experimental switch in Settings and is off by default.

  • Past days show what was done. In DAY, MULTI and WEEK, a past day shows each task's recorded Do in place of its plan block, as striped cards in the task's colour. MONTH's bars follow the Do. Tasks with nothing recorded show as they were planned, so older days do not go blank.
  • The Check. A journal of the day behind a button in the JOBO view: each piece of work in order, its plan against what happened, every session and its progress. Contributed by Lcub3d.
  • Continue and Add follow-up. Each Check entry offers the next step. Continue moves an unfinished task to tomorrow at its planned time with the time that was left, in one click with Undo. Add follow-up opens a new task from a finished one, in the same project with its tags and colour, unscheduled.
  • Day statistics beside the date. Contributed by Lcub3d.
  • Undo and redo for Do edits, in the app's one history, and Complete task from the Do editor. Restoring a completed Do no longer creates a duplicate, contributed by Lcub3d.
  • A wider notes sidebar, where the Daily Note can be edited in place and a button puts the split between it and the task's notes back where it started.
  • Refocus timeline as in MULTI, "Finished later" on a Partial that was completed afterwards, #tag suggestions when adding unlinked work, and clearer labels throughout.
  • With several users, each sees only their own Do.

Security

  • Electron 43.7.5 on desktop, for four advisories.
  • hono, used by the assistant integration, patched for GHSA-hxh3-vqpv-xpqv.
  • Build tooling patched for advisories in undici, brace-expansion and fast-uri. None of these ship in the app.

Under the hood

  • The test suite runs in UTC wherever it runs. A sunrise test passed on CI and failed for contributors in other time zones, with nothing to suggest why.
  • Locale checks catch more. A string left in English inside a translated bundle now fails the suite, and so does a key written twice, which would silently replace the original string everywhere it is used. Two JOBO strings nothing displayed were removed before anyone was asked to translate them.
  • 5.4.2 was tagged but never published, and is skipped rather than reused.

Thanks

  • Lcub3d for the Check (#1882) and its contrast and date fixes (#1895), JOBO's day statistics (#1868), restoring completed Do without duplicates (#1867), and Simplified Chinese in the iOS catalogs (#1872).
  • polymatheiia for Polish and Ukrainian on Android (#1888) and iOS (#1889).
