PS5 UltraPack 2.3.1

2.3.1 makes the app safer with downloaded files and shows more clearly what it is doing and what it will do next.

PS4 PKG Tools and PS5 PKG Tools

The two tools from 2.3.0 have new names. They do more than repairs, so they are now called PS4 PKG Tools and PS5 PKG Tools, in the sidebar, in Add job and in the File menu.

PS4 PKG Tools write down every step before they take it. If a run stops half-way, because you quit or the Mac crashes, Undo last change still puts the package back. Undo goes back one run at a time and tells you which package and which run it undoes. PS5 PKG Tools can now rebuild a package that sits in your library: the fixed copy goes next to it as "(2)", and the view shows where it will go before you add the job.

PS5 PKG Tools

Safer with downloaded files

A disk image or package can carry file names built to escape the folder it is unpacked to. Such names can no longer write outside that folder, and they can no longer trick the app into deleting a folder. A .pkg is now built in a folder of its own and moved into place when it is complete, so a failed build never touches a package that was already there. Moving a source to another drive copies it under a hidden name first, and most archive passwords now go to 7-Zip at its prompt instead of on the command line.

When the output of a job is already there and you chose Delete, the source only goes when the output is exactly the job's, firmware included.

Big folders

When you add a big folder, Add job now reads it in the background. The window stays usable and shows how many sources it has found. Then it checks the archives for PS4 packages and counts them next to the button. Add to queue waits until everything is read, so no PS4 game turns up after you added the jobs. Before, only the first 60 archives of a folder were checked for PS4 packages. Now all of them are.

Add job and the queue

Add job shows what happens to the source after the job, in the summary and in the queue row, and Delete is red. Several files and folders dropped at once become one Add job. A half-filled Add job waits for you when you click elsewhere in the sidebar.

At the end of a run the app lists every job that did not finish, with the reason, and offers Retry failed. Jobs on a drive that is not connected stay in the queue and come back with the drive. With "Ask me" on low space, the question skips the job by itself after a minute, so a queue you left alone keeps going. Stop asks before it ends a job that has run for a while.

Also new

  • Organize keeps a history: Undo goes back one Apply at a time and names the folder.
  • Look inside can unpack the whole image as a job in the queue.
  • Clean temp also clears the extra temp drives.
  • Settings are regrouped: the packing options sit on Compression, rarely used ones under Advanced, and a page can be reset.
  • The tables in the tool views follow light and dark mode, and dim text has more contrast.
  • A small window keeps Add to queue and every table column in sight.

Fixed

  • Rescan gave every new job the patch of the last Add job.
  • Move and Delete after the job took a whole download folder even when it held a hidden subfolder.
  • PS5 PKG Tools could show only part of the checks.
  • In German, some labels of the tools were still English.
