Tachyon 4.0.0 is a big enough step that it gets a new major number, and this
pre-release exists so it can be tested properly before it becomes 4.0.0 proper.
Please try it and report what breaks. Calendar support in particular has only
been tested against Nextcloud's CalDAV, and I would very much like to hear from
anyone running Radicale or Baikal.
Calendar
Tachyon now speaks CalDAV. Point it at a server in Settings, Calendar, and your
calendars appear behind the new 📅 entry in the top right menu, with month,
week, day and list views, drag to move, and an editor for creating and changing
events.
This started as discussion #19
from @Ged296123, who wanted a mail client that could also front their
existing CalDAV and CardDAV server without deploying a whole groupware stack.
That framing shaped the result: this is a client, not a groupware product.
Two limits worth knowing before you file a bug:
- Repeating events are read only. They display and expand correctly, but the
editor rebuilds an event from its fields and would silently drop the
recurrence rule, so the editor refuses rather than quietly flattening a series
into a single event. Proper series editing needs this instance / this and
future / all semantics, which is its own feature. - Task lists are not supported yet. A calendar holding VTODO items syncs
without complaint and simply shows nothing from them. That is next.
CardDAV and CalDAV fixes
Three real bugs turned up while testing against a live Nextcloud, and two of
them affected contacts as well:
- Credentials were sent only after a 401 challenge. A server answering an
anonymous request with anything else, and Nextcloud behind nginx answers 404,
never got authenticated at all. Basic auth now goes out with the first
request. - Calendar permissions were read wrongly and every calendar looked read only.
- The CardDAV connection test authenticated with an encrypted copy of the
password, so it failed against every server. If Test never worked for you,
try it again.
Both Test buttons now say whether they succeeded. Neither used to say anything
at all when the connection was fine, which was indistinguishable from a dead
button.
A proper icon set
The interface drew almost all of its icons as emoji, so they carried their own
colours and ignored the theme. They are now Lucide
outlines, drawn with the current text colour, which means they follow whichever
theme is active. The old icon font is gone.
Nextcloud
Fixes #13, where signing out of
Nextcloud left you unable to sign back in. Tachyon and SnappyMail cannot both
run in one request, they compete for the same version constant, and Tachyon
would abort the logout half way through. It now logs the conflict and gets out
of the way. If you are upgrading from SnappyMail, remove the SnappyMail app.
Thanks to @lvarnava for chasing this one down to a reproducible case, and to
@hbarel for confirming the earlier fix.
Contacts
Select all, a marker for synced contacts, and deleting several at once, from
#18.
Upgrading
The data directory and configuration are unchanged. Calendar support is off
until you enable it in the admin panel (or settings.ini file):
[calendar]
enable = On
allow_sync = OnNextcloud users: this is a pre-release, so it goes to the nightly (beta)
channel of the app store rather than stable.
