Rage Racer PC 0.6.4-alpha

pre-release2 hours ago

Standalone game release for macOS Apple Silicon, Linux x86-64 and Windows x86-64. No launcher or save editor is bundled.

Getting started

Download the ZIP for your platform, extract it, and open the game. On first launch, select your legally obtained Rage Racer CUE with its BIN tracks, Track 01 BIN, or CHD. The game imports native assets automatically and starts with the modern renderer. No separate extractor or Python installation is required. A Track 01-only image does not contain the CD music tracks.

Changes since 0.6.3-alpha

  • Enhanced classic renderer supports higher resolutions, widescreen and interpolated high-FPS presentation. Switch renderers with F10. Original PAL/NTSC simulation timing is preserved.
  • Modern rendering improves scenery visibility, sky rendering and resident geometry reuse, with bounded vertex-upload allocation and GPU queue handling.
  • Fixed mismatched car models/textures/wheels after interrupting attract mode and entering Grand Prix.
  • Fixed holes in the road during enhanced classic interpolation when polygon topology changes.
  • Fixed an indefinite memory-card wait after loading or saving. Complete saves now finish loading normally.
  • Corrected NTSC-U speed displays to mph; rival simulation speeds are unchanged.
  • Removed the repeated final-stretch announcement at the finish line and improved validation of assets, car upgrades and race records.
  • Repaired the complete Windows test build. All platform release jobs now run the full unit/functional test selection; new regressions cover the fixes above.

Notes

  • Archives contain the default configuration and no game data, personal saves or generated asset caches.
  • Linux is built on Ubuntu 24.04. A supported graphics driver is required. Windows VM testing used software Vulkan; accelerated Windows driver behavior and performance are not exhaustively validated.
  • This remains an alpha: scenery pop-in and frame-time spikes can still occur. Enhanced classic may retain original-rate movement during topology changes. Stable 120 FPS is not guaranteed.
  • CHD support is implemented, but a full first-run CHD matrix across all platforms has not been completed.

See the included docs/release-0.6.4-alpha.md for detailed changes and validation scope. SHA256SUMS.txt contains checksums for the three game archives.
