First Look
When opening the sheet for the first time, the Sheet tab is selected, and the Sidebar is shown.
Play / Edit Mode
The Sheet Mode Toggle can be found at the top left of the sheet.
Play Mode. The sheet is optimized for normal play. For example, edit HP, roll skills and abilities, equip and attune items, and prepare spells.
Edit Mode. The sheet is opened up for configuration and customization, such as managing inventory, adjusting skill proficiencies and ability scores, changing Armor Class calculations, and configuring Temp Max HP.
The Header
The header is composed of character vitals, name, subtitle, header actions, XP bar, inspiration, level badge, inspiration tracker, armor class, abilities, initiative, and concentration.
Vitals
Portrait. The character portrait shows your character image or token image, based on the Portrait Shape setting. When in Play Mode, clicking the portrait shows the portrait in a preview window. When in Edit Mode, clicking the portrait opens the FilePicker, allowing you to change your image.
Portrait Mode. You can cycle between the various portrait modes by putting the sheet in Edit Mode and clicking the portrait shape button to the top right of the portrait.
This setting can also be adjusted via the Theme Settings window.
Hit Points. Manage your hit point on the big green bar. Delta numbers also accepted (e.g., "+10", "-5").
Temp Hit Points. Manage temporary hit points by clicking the icon of a hand holding a heart.
When your character already has temp hit points, you will see the amount in blue. You can click this amount to adjust it.
Temp Max Hit Points and other Hit Point Settings. When in edit mode, click the cog where temp hit points would be to access your HP configuration window.
Hit Dice Since Hit Dice are managed through rests, there is nothing to do in Play Mode. Put the sheet in Edit Mode to see config button for Hit Dice.
Exhaustion. Manage exhaustion by clicking on the heartbeat icon next to Hit Dice.
This opens the Exhaustion Tracker.
Death Saves. Toggle Death Saves UI in Play Mode by clicking the skull icon next to the exhaustion icon. This causes your exhaustion counters to appear over the portrait.
Click an empty death save slot to increase successes or failures. Skulls are failures. Hearts are successes.
Click the roll icon overlaying the portrait to roll a death saving throw.
Configure Death Saves in Edit Mode by clicking the cog where the Death Saves skull would normally be.
Name, Subtitle
The character's name and a brief summary subtitle take the center top of the header. Change your character's name in Edit Mode.
Header Actions
Take a short or long rest using the header action controls to the right of the character name.
Experience Points (XP)
The XP bar sits to the right of the header, below the header actions, if XP Leveling is enabled in the D&D 5e system settings. Manage your XP in Edit Mode.
Level, Proficiency Bonus, Inspiration
Your character's inspiration, overall level, and proficiency bonus can be found on the far right of the sheet header.
Armor Class
See your armor class at a glance, just to the right of character vitals. Hover for a breakdown of the AC calculation. Configure AC in Edit Mode.
Abilities
The character's abilities are at the heart of the sheet header. Click the large d20 shape to roll an ability check.
The number in the smaller d20 shape is the ability score.
The number below the ability score with the small shield icon is the Saving Throw modifier. Click the Saving Throw modifier to roll a saving throw.
Update your ability scores in Edit Mode by clicking the modifier or the ability score. This will reveal an input for updating the score.
Configure your ability score in Edit Mode with the cog near the score.
Initiative
Initiative is at the far right of the ability scores. Click the d20 shape to roll initiative.
Concentration
Below initiative, the character's concentration modifier can be found. Roll concentration by clicking the word Concentration.
Configure concentration in Edit Mode by clicking the cog.
The Sidebar
The sidebar currently features two tabs, Favorites and Skills.
Favorites. The favorites sidebar tab holds your favorite items, effects, activities, spell slots, skills, and tool proficiencies. You can drag any of these things from their location in the sheet and drop them on the favorites tab of the sidebar. Alternatively, all of these sheet parts can be right-clicked for an option to add or remove from favorites.
Skills. The skills sidebar tab holds skills and tools for quick access while viewing any of the main sheet tabs. By default, only skills with a level of proficiency are visible, but you can click the Skills header to toggle a view of all skills.
You can toggle the sidebar by using the button to the left of the tabs.
Note
Tidy will preserve your sidebar preferences for each tab, and the sidebar will open and close as you change tabs, to match your last use.
Tabs
By default, the new character sheet ships with nine tabs—Sheet, Character, Inventory, Spellbook, Features, Effects, Biography, Bastion, and Journal.
Sheet
Sometimes referred to as the "Action" tab, the Sheet tab automatically pulls together all of your items, spells, and features which have some form of action economy available.
Throughout the sheet, the Bookmark represents whether an item is included in the Sheet tab. Some items are included automatically, but if you would prefer to exclude those, you can toggle the bookmark.
Aspects of this tab's rules for including content can be adjusted in the Tidy User Settings "Actions List" tab.
Character
A character's core characteristics can be found in the Character tab—Skill / Tool / Saving Throw proficiencies, special traits, classes / subclasses, species, background, and more.
To edit these aspects of the character, make sure to switch to "Edit" mode.
Inventory
Access all your items at a glance, including items within containers. Drag and drop between your inventory and your containers. Equip, attune, toggle for Sheet tab and Favorites, and more.
Keep track of your encumbrance and attuned items with handy tooltips.
Spellbook
Fill your spellbook and filter out the noise when it matters. Keep track of your magic items with spells. Quickly discern your multiclass spellcaster abilities and spell loadouts.
Features
Explore your character's features and organize them either into Feature Origins or Custom Sections.
Effects
Manage effects and conditions efficiently and in style.
Biography
Tell the story of your character.
Bastion
Own and operate your Bastion per the 2024 rules.
Important
The Bastion tab is only available when enabled in the D&D 5e system configuration settings and when the character has achieved the prerequisites.
Journal
Are you a note taker? Capture any notes for your character in the Journal. You can make as many as you want, drag to reorder, duplicate them, copy/move them across other sheets you own, the works.
The Action Bar
Most tabs have an action bar with useful tools to help with bringing out the full potential of the sheet.
Sections Expand Toggle
Quickly expand / collapse all sections.
[!INFO]
Long-press, long-click, or right click buttons with a little down arrow on them to see extra options.
Search, Filtering, Advanced Filters
Filter your items by searching and toggling filters. Filters can be set to Include by left-clicking, and Exclude by right-clicking. Clicking again in the same way will turn off the filter.
Sort
Sort your items to your liking. Depending the tab, the sort button will cycle through more than just alphabetical and manual. Left-clicking the sort button will cycle forward through the options. Right-clicking / long-pressing will show all available filters.
Section Configuration
Order, show, and hide your sections on a given tab. Configure additional options and leverage useful tools specific to the current tab.
Custom Sections
If you like to organize your inventories beyond just their standard groupings, use Tidy custom sections.
Responsive UI
This character sheet is designed to accommodate smaller and wider views. Columns show/hide based on available space. Various pieces of UI will transform at smaller views to present a tidy view.
Homebrew: Banked Inspiration
Do you want to give your players more inspiration? Tidy 5e Sheets includes Homebrew configuration. There, you can activate "Banked Inspiration."
Then, create a Feature Item on your sheet with uses, right-click it, and select "Set as inspiration source." Watch the inspiration tracker transform to accommodate multiple charges of inspiration.
[!INFO]
Because this feature leverages an item with uses and activities to drive banked inspiration, the possibilities for mechanics are vast and exciting.
Inline Containers
As you've seen in the inventory section, the new character sheet features the classic Tidy Inline Containers feature, dedicated to those who loved Inventory+ back in the day.
Tab Selection
Curate your tab loadout with Tab Selection, found in the header menu.
Theme Customization
Customize the look and feel of your sheets, including sheet header background, colors, and other aspects with Tidy Theme Settings. Themes can be set at the world level as a default for all sheets, and then at the sheet level itself. Child sheets like items will inherit the theme of their parent actor sheet automatically.
