What's new in 1.0.0
- A new instrument on the screen: Stage puts the four tracks, their sounds, patterns and live
controls on HOME. Rubik type, Melodee's own icons, track colours and NIGHT / DAY / CONTRAST
palettes carry through the sound browser, mixer, pattern and song views, full-height NOTES and
drum editors, curve pages and action sheets. - One navigation language: KNOB 1 moves across, KNOB 2 moves down, SELECT changes pages,
OCT+ enters and OCT− goes back. Named values open pickers; actions open sheets instead of hiding
behind button combinations. The octave buttons keep their musical job on Stage. - Faster display: the firmware sends only the areas that changed to the LCD. Scrolling NOTES,
moving its playhead and turning most controls no longer resend the whole screen. - More sound and performance: dual-core rendering is on by default, DSP signal paths use the
FM-1's native single-precision FPU, the shared delay returns in DIGI and TAPE modes, and the
Felucca 1.4 modulation, performance-FX, stereo-spread, HALL and screen-sleep work is included. - 808 and 909 kits: both DRUM kits synthesize every voice in real time. The 909 kick, snare,
toms, rim and clap use circuit models from
fm1-x0x;
hats, crash and ride use metallic oscillator/noise approximations rather than samples. EDIT sets
each drum's tuning, decay, tone, attack/snappy and level; a recorded hit can keep its own pitch
and length. - Finish the song on the box: Capture writes the last bars you played, Jam logs pattern changes,
REC held on SONG turns that jam into an arrangement, and projects save themselves after five idle
seconds. SONG's four knobs select section, track, pattern and repeats. - SID replaces LOFI: a Commodore MOS 6581 / 8580 for every note, modelled at the register level after
reSID: three oscillators on the chip's 16-bit frequency register,
pulse, triangle, sawtooth, the 23-bit noise register, ring modulation and hard sync, and the combined
waveforms as reSID sampled them from real chips. The chip's own envelope generator (its 16 rates,
exponential decay and ADSR delay), each revision's DACs, cutoff curve and resonance, the 6581's thump
through the C64's output stage, and 32 factory presets. MODEL switches between 6581 and 8580. - A smaller, focused engine list: PROPHET, FM6, CZ-1, SID and DRUM are selectable. PHASE,
VOICE and NOISE join TRIO, WHEEL and PHYS as retired engine IDs; old tracks using them remain
identifiable but silent. Phrases and their pages are removed.
Upgrading from 0.13.1: the Prophet user banks move to their new flash location on first boot.
Export important Prophet programs, or keep the installer's complete backup, before downgrading:
older firmware does not know the new location. The four legacy project objects are retired and are
not read by 1.0.0. Sounds saved before the delay returned load with their delay send at zero.
Tracks and user presets that used LOFI keep their engine number and load as SID with LOFI's control
values, so they sound different; choose a SID preset to start again.
Install
Connect the FM-1 by USB and open the web installer in Chrome or Edge. The installer saves a full backup before updating. For a local install, run python3 tools/fm1_install.py melodee-1.0.0.fwsc. The installed release reports FM-1_91000.

Validation
The release commit passed the full host suite (3,318 checks). SID's own 41 checks compare it with reSID's documented chip behaviour: envelope timing cycle for cycle, the ADSR delay, the 16-bit frequency register, both revisions' DACs and cutoff curves, the filter's mode sums, ring modulation, hard sync, the noise register, and the combined waveforms unpacked bit for bit from reSID's samples. Reference renders changed only for SID's presets and the two song mixes that use it. On an FM-1 running this package (FM-1_91000), a project with two PROPHET tracks, SID and DRUM played at 16 % CPU, with its slowest audio block at 636 µs of 5,805 µs. SID's presets have not been tuned by ear on hardware yet.
