v1.0.0-rc.1 — 2026-10-26
Pre-release for testing. This release candidate is for people who want to try what's coming in the next stable version early. I'm still testing it myself, so you may run into bugs. If you just want a stable app, keep using
karimz1/imgcompress:latest. This RC doesn't changelatest. Found a bug? Please open an issue.
Each feature links to its ticket with a short how-to. The full guides go live on the docs site with the stable release.
Changelog
Features
-
Image editor: Crop, pick an exact output size, add a background, text and pictures, and rotate any of them. Drag, resize and turn things right on the canvas, with snapping, a grid, undo and keyboard shortcuts. Works with touch on tablets, including iPad in landscape. On phones you get crop and size, and your design stays as it is. #906
-
Fit images to an exact output size: Presets for YouTube thumbnails, Shorts and stories, Instagram, X, link previews, GitHub social previews, Pinterest, Full HD, 2K and 4K, or your own size. Crop to fill, or keep the whole image on a blurred, solid, transparent or picture background. #906
-
Smart crop: When cropping to a fixed size, ImgCompress keeps the important part in frame and avoids cutting through text or faces. #906
-
Backgrounds: Blur, solid color, gradients with ready-made presets, or your own picture that you can move, scale, rotate, darken, blur and tint. Dots, stripes, grid lines or a checkerboard on a solid color.
-
Text and image layers: Up to 5 texts and 5 images per design, for titles, watermarks or a logo. Four bundled fonts, bold and italic, color, shadow, opacity and alignment. #906
-
Add local AI upscaling: Small photos and drawings lose detail when enlarged with ordinary resizing. An optional upscaler now runs a local AI model on the CPU, in the web UI and CLI, up to 16K. Nothing leaves your server. #907
-
Add SVG import: Convert SVGs to PNG, JPEG, AVIF, WebP, ICO or PDF in the web UI and CLI, with resizing and cropping. PNG keeps transparency. #938
-
Add WebP export: ImgCompress could already read WebP, now it can also export it, lossy or lossless. #905
-
Upload limit: Set
MAX_UPLOAD_SIZE_MBin Docker or Compose to cap the size of each upload. It is optional, the default is 40 GB so big PSD and PDF files work. The upload area shows the limit. For a public instance we recommend 1 GB (1024). Guide -
Build details in the footer: The footer shows exactly which version, RC or nightly you run. Click it for the build time, source commit and a Copy details button for bug reports. Update notices compare against the installed build. #913
Bug Fixes
- Cleanup and "Delete all" no longer remove files of a job that is still running. Folders of running jobs are locked across all workers, and their age counts from the last activity, so a file you are downloading is not deleted underneath you.
- Downloads only serve finished conversion results. Uploaded originals and other temp files can no longer be downloaded by folder name.
Other Changes
- Releases: A
release_*tag now prepares a GitHub release draft with generated notes, RC tags publish test images without touchinglatest, and published notes are synced into the app's "What's new". #911 #912
