Adrafinil 1.7.0

latest release: v1.8

Before the changelog, a word from the family: Adrafinil has siblings. Refrax is a maximalist browser — what a browser becomes when one person builds it for themselves and nobody tells them to stop. Phosphene puts live video wallpapers on your Mac, on the desktop and the lock screen both. And Dantrolene keeps the lock chain from ever starting on the WiFi you call home, so an agent's question is one keypress away instead of a password. All free and open source — go poke around.

As for this release: follow-through. Both fixes close gaps that careful bug reports exposed, and the updater those reports arrived through now runs lighter.

Fixed

  • Pi holds can no longer outlive Pi by a day. Pi runs as a Node-hosted process, so the process-tree walk that binds a hold to its owning agent never found it — and a hold whose release event went missing had no owner to die with and no CPU to go idle, leaving it standing until the 24-hour backstop. Pi extensions run inside the host process, so the extension now hands over its own PID outright, valid under every wrapper npm, Homebrew, or Nix can produce, which puts the dead-process and CPU-idle nets back in business; a 4-hour TTL, refreshed every turn, backstops the case where everything else is missed. Already-installed extensions migrate on the next launch. Diagnosed down to the exact resolver line by @iluvshiwoon. (#26)

  • adrafinil release now takes the keys status --json prints — and says so when nothing matched. Feeding a displayed key like opencode:ses_xyz back without --tool used to mint unknown:opencode:ses_xyz, a key that could never match, and exit 0 anyway — a cleanup script could "release" two dozen assertions and touch nothing. A displayed key now releases as-is, and a release that matched nothing exits 1 for scripts, not only at a terminal. Agent hooks are unaffected: they name their tool, and their routine safety-net double releases stay quiet no-ops. Reported, retested on 1.6.0, and pinned down to the exact asymmetry by @t-choudhury. (#25)

Changed

  • One update check a day, not two. The self-updater and the "a new version is out" notice used to each ask GitHub separately — the same question, twice, with the answer to one thrown away. Tiptoe 1.1.0 added a notify-only mode for exactly this shape of app, so the single daily check now serves both: with auto-install on it downloads and waits for a quiet moment as before, and with it off the same check powers the Settings row, the menu-bar card, and Update Now — which now downloads on demand instead of needing a second updater standing by. Mode and release shipped by @artginzburg, who built the updater in the first place. (#21)

Still on macOS 15 Sequoia? @valentine maintains a backport fork.
