LineageOS for the Echo Dot (2nd Gen), Kiosk Satellite Edition 2026.10.16
This release fixes apps crashing when a filled-in text field came into view and no longer carries GApps or Magisk over from another image.
Fixes
- GApps and Magisk survived an install of this image (#27). LineageOS runs its backup tool in every zip it builds for testing, which the Echo images are. It saves what
/system/addon.dlists before the zip writes the system partition and puts it back after. Moving from another image with GApps or Magisk, such as R0rt1z2's, kept them, even with the data wiped. An account GApps added could then keep Kiosk Satellite from becoming the device owner. The Echo Shows' EchoService only takes an update from the device owner. The zip no longer runs the backup tool, so an install writes exactly this image.make checkfails a zip that runs it. This fix applies to every Echo. - Apps crashed when a filled-in text field became visible (#24). The image leaves out Android's autofill service to save memory, but Android's autofill code still called it when a text field that already had text and no focus came into view. The app crashed with a NullPointerException, for example YouTube Morphe on saving its settings to a file. Android now skips autofill when the service is not there. This fix applies to every Echo.
Changes
- What to check when an update fails with "TWRP did not run the update" (#26). On a USB hub, a Dot's bootloader started Android instead of TWRP at every restart into recovery, so no update installed. The Echo Dot guide now asks for the Dot's own power adapter and says what to do when an update fails this way.
- The docs no longer cover moving from the CM14.1 image. The README section, the Echo Dot guide's Moving from the CM14.1 image section and the notes about Dots on 2026.10.5 are gone. The CM14.1 image's last release came out before this image. Dots still on it can install this image by hand with the steps in Installing.
- The README lists the Echos in progress. The devices table now lists the Echo Dot (3rd gen) as
donut, the Echo Show 5 (1st gen) ascheckersand the Echo Show 8 (2nd gen) asathena, all as work in progress. - One changelog for each device.
CHANGELOG.mdis nowCHANGELOG-biscuit.md,CHANGELOG-cronos.mdandCHANGELOG-crown.md, with release headings such as## 2026.10.15 - 2026-10-29. A build takes its release from its own device's changelog, so an Unreleased section for one Echo never touches another's builds. - Setting the time server and the time zone. The Echo Dot guide has a new Time section. It covers using your own NTP server instead of
time.android.comand setting the time zone from adb, since the Dot starts on GMT. Android 11 ignores an NTP server the router hands out over DHCP (#25). - Builds leave the rest of the host usable. A build used to take every CPU and stall the whole host until it finished. The build container now gets half the CPUs at the lowest priority and half the memory without swap, with one job for every 5 GB. metalava, which takes several GB a run, runs at most two at a time with 20 GB.
BUILD_CPUS,BUILD_MEMORY,BUILD_JOBSandBUILD_HIGHMEM_JOBSchange the limits. Building covers them.
Updating
Install it from the Dot's Firmware entity in Home Assistant or from Kiosk Satellite's remote admin. BiscuitService installs it into both slots and restarts the Dot twice. Kiosk Satellite and its settings stay. Keep the Dot on its own power adapter, not a USB hub, or TWRP may not start. If your Dot cannot get online yet, install this release by hand from TWRP with the steps in the Echo Dot guide, leaving out twrp wipe data.
Requirements
The Dot needs amonet v2.0.0 or v2.0.1 with TWRP 3.7.0_9-0. See Unlocking.
