What's new in Kiosk Satellite v0.28.0-beta

New Audio Settings with Mixer-Style Volume

Volume is now a three-fader mixer, replacing the previous assistant volume behavior. A new Audio settings page (below Screen, also in the remote admin) holds three sliders: Master volume is the device volume, the one the hardware buttons and the existing Volume entity in Home Assistant move. Media volume and Assistant volume each set their own share of the master, independent of each other, so music can play quietly while voice responses stay at a normal level, and turning the music up never makes the assistant shout.

All three sliders are exposed to Home Assistant, with new Media volume and Assistant volume number entities. The Sendspin player volume in Music Assistant now controls the Media volume slider directly, so the two always agree, and changing it no longer touches the device volume. Fixed-volume devices such as Chromebooks use the same three faders, with the master applied in software.

Note: this replaces the previous volume handling, so you may need to apply your previously chosen volume levels once after updating.

Home Assistant Optimizations On by Default

The dashboard optimizations (Keep connected in the background, Pause dashboard during screensaver, Filter dashboard updates) have proven themselves across devices and are now on by default, and part of the setup wizard's recommended settings. On a busy dashboard the screensaver pause alone cuts the app's CPU use by roughly two thirds and runs the device more than 20 degrees cooler. Devices where you explicitly turned one off keep your choice.

Improvements

  • Styled the remote admin scrollbars to match the theme.
