What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.9.92
This release brings Alarms, one of the most requested features since Kiosk Satellite started. Your night table kiosk can now wake you up with no Home Assistant automation required. It also lets a remote's left arrow reach the dashboard, keeps the screensaver away while you navigate with a remote and shows voice turns on the black screen timeout.
New Feature: Alarms
- On-device Alarms. They ring without Home Assistant or a network, even after a restart or when Android has put the app to sleep.
- Hard to miss, easy to stop. A ringing alarm wakes the screen, comes over the dashboard or another app and plays on the Android alarm stream, so a muted media volume never silences it. It rings until you tap Stop or Snooze, say the stop word or Silence after runs out.
- Sunrise. A sunrise alarm brightens the screen gradually under a rising glow before it rings.
- Rings on your screensaver. On the Clock and Weather Mood screensavers, a new Let alarms take over switch, on by default, makes the alarm ring on the screensaver itself, in its own font and colors, at normal brightness even when the screensaver is dimmed.
- Your own tones. A new built-in alarm sound, or any sound in the sounds folder, with an Add a sound row just like the Announcements chime.
- Next alarm widget. A new screensaver corner widget shows the next alarm and opens the list when tapped. The screensaver waits while the list is open.
- Remote admin. A new Alarms page lists, adds and edits alarms, and the Overview shows a banner with Snooze and Stop while an alarm rings.
- Home Assistant. New Alarm ringing and Alarm snoozed until sensors and Stop alarm and Snooze alarm buttons over ESPHome. The existing Next alarm sensor now includes the kiosk's alarms.
- Fleet Management. A new Alarms category syncs the defaults. The alarms themselves stay on each kiosk.
Improvements
- D-pad left reaches the dashboard. Left on a remote or keyboard now goes to the dashboard like the other arrows, so a card built for remotes can move focus left along a row (#745). Back opens the kiosk menu instead, with its first entry focused, and a second Back within 3 seconds goes back as before.
Fixes
- Moving around the dashboard with a remote holds off the screensaver. D-pad presses sent to the dashboard never counted as activity, so the screensaver started in the middle of navigating. They now reset the idle timer like a touch does.
- Back from a remote opens the kiosk menu on Android 16. With kiosk mode on or Kiosk Satellite as the home screen, one Back press ran twice on Android 16, so the menu opened and closed again at once and the page went back a step. A press now runs once.
- A voice turn shows on the black screen. With Use a black screen instead under Turn screen off after, a wake word lit the screen but the black cover stayed over the voice overlay, so the turn played with nothing on screen (#746). The cover now sits under the overlay while a turn shows and goes back on top when it ends.
