What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.9.9

A small release around the kiosk menu and the updater. HA Kiosk Mode can now be flipped from the restricted menu and from a gesture and in-app updates work on a device whose SD card is formatted as internal storage.

Added: HA Kiosk Mode from the restricted menu and from a gesture

  • An HA Kiosk Mode row on the Kiosk Mode page's Allowed Actions: with it on, the restricted menu that Allow menu with quick actions opens carries the same HA Kiosk Mode entry as the full menu, so whoever stands at the device can bring the Home Assistant header and sidebar back, or hide them again, without the exit gesture or the PIN. On by default like the other actions, so switch it off where the hidden navigation must stay hidden.
  • A Toggle HA kiosk mode gesture action, on the device and in the remote admin alike: the mapped gesture hides the Home Assistant header and sidebar and, performed again, brings them back, the same switch as HA kiosk mode under the Home Assistant settings. It runs whether or not the menu row is allowed, so a secret gesture can open the navigation for a moment while the menu stays as it was.

Fixed

  • Updating from an SD card formatted as internal storage now works. A device whose SD card is adopted as internal storage and that keeps the app on it refused every update from the app itself, with "Cannot automatically move me.jxl.kiosk_satellite from to internal storage", because the install session asked Android for internal storage only. The session now lets the update stay on whichever storage the app already occupies, as the system installer does. This one release still has to be installed by hand on such a tablet, since the fix sits in the code that runs the update; every update after it installs from the app again.
