What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.9.88
This release adds Android broadcasts and a new action for starting and ending a voice turn, a Person Sensor page for the Meta Portal and a fleet-wide backup endpoint. It also fixes the ESPHome device dropping out of Home Assistant, a device stuck in call mode with echo cancellation off and a real Wi-Fi MAC address that could never be replaced.
Improvements
- Android broadcasts start and end a voice turn. Apps on the device can send
me.jxl.kiosk_satellite.action.VOICE_WAKEto listen as if the wake word fired, with an optionalslotextra for Assistant 2, andme.jxl.kiosk_satellite.action.VOICE_CANCELto end the turn the way a double tap does (#733). A remote's button mapper, Tasker, Automate oradb shell am broadcastcan now drive voice without a round trip through Home Assistant. - vs_cancel action. The new
vs_cancelESPHome action ends the voice turn on screen from an automation, the counterpart tovs_wake. - Person Sensor page. A new page under Camera exposes the device's person sensor to Home Assistant as the ESPHome Person occupancy sensor without touching the screensaver (#734). It shows on devices with a person sensor, today the Meta Portal, and does not need the Camera switch. The Person entity now follows this switch instead of Dismiss on person. Kiosks that had Dismiss on person on get the new switch turned on once on update, so their entity stays.
- Fleet export. A new Remote API endpoint,
GET /api/fleet/export, returns the full configuration of the leader and every follower in one file, secrets included (#721). Each kiosk's entry is the same backup/api/config/exportgives and restores through/api/config/import. Followers need this release too. - Native Voice Satellite documentation. A new documentation page covers setting it up, migrating from the integration, every setting, playing sounds on a media player, timers and conversations, the Home Assistant entities and actions and troubleshooting.
Fixes
- The ESPHome device no longer drops out of Home Assistant when the person sensor starts. The log reader behind the person sensor held on to the ESPHome server's port, so the next server restart failed and the device stayed offline until the app restarted. Turning on Dismiss on person with ESPHome running was enough to trigger it.
- Voice Satellite no longer puts the device in call mode with echo cancellation off. Listening for the wake word held Android's call audio route even with the canceller off. On some devices, such as the Movistar Home, every app's audio then played at call quality and the volume buttons only changed call volume (#732).
- Voice Satellite explains missing Assistant and Wake word selects. Home Assistant adds these selects only when it sets up the kiosk's ESPHome entry, so a kiosk that turned on voice later showed them as Not available (#735). The kiosk reloads the entry to add them, but that takes an administrator's token. With a regular user's token, the Home Assistant row and the select rows now say Reload needed and explain what to do.
- Use real Wi-Fi MAC address reads the address again after a toggle. The first address the kiosk read was kept for good, so a ROM that first reported a placeholder and later the real address left the placeholder in use (#736). Turning the switch off and back on now reads the hardware again.
- An intercom call keeps the screen on. With Keep screen on off, Android's screen timeout ran through a call, so a call nobody touched could put the device to sleep and a Portal fell into Meta's home screen (#729).
- The call length screen shows when the other kiosk hangs up. Ending a call from the far side skipped the ten seconds of call length with Call again and Close.
- Dismissing the screensaver hides the navigation bar again. On some Android 12 devices with gesture navigation, a grey strip stayed across the bottom of the dashboard after the screensaver ended (#728).
