What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.9.80
This release turns the Weather Mood weather bar into glass chips, cuts wake word CPU use and makes Weather Mood lighter and cleaner on 32-bit devices like the Echo Show.
New Feature: Weather Mood glass chips
- Chips instead of a bar. The full-width weather bar is now a set of chips floating over the scene. A chip at the bottom left shows the conditions icon, temperature and conditions. Each reading gets a matching chip at the bottom right with its icon, title and value, all in the style of the At a Glance pills.
- Real glass. The scene behind the chips bends at their rounded edges like a lens under a bright rim of light, so they take on the colors of every sky from day to dusk to night. Devices without the Impeller renderer show tinted chips instead.
- Sensible defaults. Background opacity sets how dark the glass is and defaults to 60%. Text drop shadow is now on by default. On narrow screens the reading chips sit above the main chip and wrap as needed.
Improvements
- microWakeWord uses about a third of the CPU it did. The whole audio frontend now runs in native code with identical results. On an Echo Show 8 the wake word thread dropped from 5.7% to 2.1% of a CPU core while listening.
- Lighter vsWakeWord listening. Audio features are computed natively and the silence check only runs when a wake word matches. On an Echo Show 8 each 80 ms of audio takes 18% less processing with identical detections.
- Weather Mood uses less CPU on 32-bit devices. Clouds render on every other frame, which halves the offscreen passes Mali graphics drivers charge a fixed CPU cost for. On an Echo Show 8 cloudy scenes dropped from about 65% to 47% of a core with the same frame rate.
- Cleaner clouds on 32-bit devices. Weather Mood clouds on low-power devices such as the Echo Show 8 no longer look grainy or dirty.
- More open skies in the Cloudy scene. The Cloudy scene has a quarter less cloud cover, so more of the sky shows between the clouds.
- Immich Media leaves out archived media. Photos and videos archived in Immich no longer show in the slideshow, including ones inside a selected album (#681).
Fixes
- Blank values hide the entity widget and At a Glance chips. A text sensor with no value showed "…" over a corner vignette. The entity widget now disappears completely and its At a Glance chip drops out of the row while the value is blank. Both return with the next value (#691).
- Do not disturb no longer follows the fleet leader. The intercom answer mode is now left out of fleet sync by default, so turning on Do not disturb on a leader no longer silences every follower. Add Answer mode back to a profile to share it across the fleet (#688).
- Weather Mood no longer restarts the app in a loop on the Meta Portal Go. A long cloud render could trigger a GPU reset that closed the app every 17 seconds. Clouds now render in small pieces and fade in over the sky.
- Translated Flip camera button. The setup QR scanner's Flip camera button now shows in Spanish, German and French.
