What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.9.79
This release adds Ukrainian localization, makes Weather Mood run smoothly on older devices like the Echo Show and brings rain on the glass, a more realistic sun and livelier clear skies to its scenes.
New: Ukrainian localization
- Ukrainian is now available as Українська during onboarding and in Settings > Device > User Interface on the device and in Remote Admin. All 3,318 current messages are translated.
- Thanks to kdinya for the translation, with credit under Settings > About > Localization Credits.
New Feature: Weather Mood screensaver adds rain drops on the glass
- Drops on the glass. Rainy, pouring, snowy-rainy and thunderstorm scenes show raindrops landing on the glass in front of the sky. Drops vary in outline and proportion, including a few that have run together.
- Sliding drops. Larger drops slide down and leave a wet trail with small beads behind. Heavier rain brings more drops and they catch the light of lightning flashes. Falling rain is lighter to make room for them.
Improvements
- Weather Mood runs dramatically smoothly on older devices. Clouds now render a few rows per frame and crossfade between cloud images, so no single frame stalls while a whole cloud layer renders. Frames follow the display's refresh rate for even motion and the workload adapts to what each device sustains. The Meta Portal Go went from 3 to 8 frames per second to a steady 30 with full-quality clouds and the Echo Show 8 no longer freezes several times per second.
- Smoother clouds on low-power devices. Clouds on 32-bit devices no longer show a grainy texture.
- A more realistic sun. The sun is a larger overexposed disk that fades into a bright bloom without a hard edge, with a paler sky around it. Dawn and dusk keep their warm tones.
- Livelier clear skies. Soft motes float in clear weather, spread evenly across the sky. Each one slowly fades in, drifts for a few seconds and fades away before reappearing somewhere else. Motes fade out near the sun instead of competing with it.
Fixes
- The Weather Mood bar edge follows its opacity. The thin line along the top of the weather bar now fades with the Background opacity slider instead of staying visible over a transparent bar.
- Rain icons in the weather bar and Weather widget. Rainy and pouring conditions show the rain cloud icons Home Assistant uses instead of an umbrella.
