What's New in Kiosk Satellite 2026.9.44

This release adds a custom update repository for kiosks on networks without internet access and a Home Assistant entity for the screensaver idle timeout. It also fixes Dpad navigation on the app launcher, Immich validation after a server rebuild and zoom levels below 1x on Android TV.

New Feature: Custom (Local) Update Repository

  • Custom Update Repository: Access it via Settings > Device > Updates. Choose between GitHub Repository, the behavior until now, or Custom Repository with the URL of a folder on your own web server. The kiosk reads releases.json and the APKs from that folder on the same schedule, so devices without internet access still get updates. Both settings sync with the fleet, so a leader points every follower at the same folder. The updates guide lists the folder layout and the commands that mirror a release. Addresses #515.

Added: Screensaver Timeout ESPHome Entity

  • Screensaver Timeout Entity: A new ESPHome configuration number holds the screensaver idle timeout in seconds, the same value as Idle timeout on the Screensaver page. Writing it from Home Assistant restarts the idle clock at the new value, so an automation can shorten the timeout at night and stretch it back by day. 0 turns the idle clock off. Addresses #516.

Fixed

  • App Launcher Dpad Focus: The first tile now takes focus when the launcher opens from the menu, and the arrows stay on the wall instead of wandering to the dashboard underneath and closing it. Dpad presses in the menu and settings also restart the idle clock like a touch does, so the screensaver stays away while you drive with a remote.
  • Immich Validation After a Server Rebuild: Validate now drops album picks the server no longer lists before probing the search and logs their names. A rebuilt server refused a search naming an old album id, which failed the button forever while the Media source row that could fix it stayed hidden behind it. Fixes #514.
  • Zoom Below 1x on Android TV: The viewport rewrite now states the layout width outright and follows rotation. A television WebView filled the missing width with its 980px default, which pinned the scale near 1x and left every level below it without effect on the NVIDIA Shield.
