What's New in Kiosk Satellite 2026.9.41
This release introduces Shizuku support for permission management, updates without on-device installation prompts and plugin access. It also adds custom plugin screensavers and fixes radio song metadata and screensaver behavior during Sendspin playback.
New Feature: Shizuku support
Kiosk Satellite now supports Shizuku for Android actions using shell or root access. Manage permissions from KS, install updates without on-device installation prompts and give supported plugins access to Shizuku.
- Shizuku Settings: Open Settings > Device > Shizuku to request access, check the connection and grant individual permissions or all permissions used by KS. The subpage works on-device and in Remote Admin and remains available with Plugin Manager disabled.
- Updates Through Shizuku: An opt-in toggle in the Shizuku subpage installs updates without tapping Allow or Install on-device when Shizuku is available and authorized. Regular updates, the optional update helper and Shizuku use the same architecture-specific APK selection. The toggle remains local to each kiosk.
- Shizuku for Plugins: SDK 1 plugins can request optional Shizuku access, check its availability and run asynchronous commands after authorization. Each plugin that requests this capability has its own permission control. Existing plugins keep their current behavior.
Added
- Custom Plugin Screensavers: Plugins can provide their own rendering while using the stock screensaver settings and behavior, including schedules, brightness, wake controls, widgets, At a Glance, pixel shift and Now Playing layouts. Plugin screensavers appear in the mode picker and schedule editor on-device and in Remote Admin. Selections remain local to each kiosk and do not sync through fleet management. The Hello World plugin demonstrates a bouncing DVD logo with color and size settings.
- Bundled Screensaver Assets: SDK 1 plugins can bundle HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images and fonts that load locally as needed. The inline HTML API remains available with a 512 KiB limit.
Fixed
- Plugin Manager and Shizuku Search: Settings search now finds controls inside both subpages, including Install from ZIP, installed plugin settings and action configuration. Results match row titles and descriptions and open the relevant control without running it. Missing descriptions no longer crash Remote Admin search.
- Current Song for Radio Playback: Music Assistant radio queues now show live song titles, artists, albums and artwork in the floating player and Now Playing. Station details remain the fallback when song metadata is unavailable. Fixes #507.
- Screensavers During Sendspin Playback: Disabling Now Playing instead of the screensaver now allows the configured screensaver to start manually or after the idle timeout and remain visible when music starts. Voice interactions, dashboard media and explicit pauses still hold the screensaver. Fixes #506.
