What's New in Kiosk Satellite 2026.9.38
This release lets detection wake the dashboard only after the screen turns off, adds streaming camera protocol preference, adjustable dashboard rotation fades and expands plugins with charts and Home Assistant entities. It also fixes home navigation from Home Assistant Area pages.
New Feature: Detection Only When the Screen Is Off
- Enjoy Photos Without Interruptions: Motion, Face, Proximity and Person Detection each have an Only when screen is off toggle in Settings and Remote Admin. Enable it to keep the visible screensaver up when activity is detected. Detection leaves the screen-off countdown alone, then wakes the dashboard after the display powers off. Touch still dismisses the screensaver. The toggles default to off and preserve existing postpone settings and schedule detection overrides. Adds #499.
Added
- Camera Protocol Preferences: Choose Auto, WebRTC, HLS or MJPEG for each Home Assistant camera in the Add and Edit dialogs. An explicit choice tries that supported protocol first and retains the others as fallbacks. Preferences apply to camera views and the screensaver and survive re-importing cameras. Available in Settings and Remote Admin. Adds #498.
- Adjustable Dashboard Fades: Set the combined fade-out and fade-in duration between dashboard views from 0.2 to 5 seconds in Settings and Remote Admin. The default of 1.4 seconds preserves the current transition speed. Loading the next view can add time.
- Plugin Charts: SDK 1 supports live time-series charts, compact sparklines and grouped bar charts in plugin settings on the device and in Remote Admin. Charts support sample inspection and bar charts include negative values. Chart history stays local to the running session.
- Plugin Sensors and Selects: Plugins can expose numeric, text and binary sensors plus writable selects to Home Assistant through ESPHome. Live value updates preserve settings edits and entity exclusions remain local during fleet sync.
Fixed
- Home Navigation from Area Pages: Gestures targeting
homenow return from a Home Assistant Area page to the dashboard's Overview. Navigation no longer treats a child view as the requested dashboard root. Fixes #496.
