What's New in Kiosk Satellite 2026.9.30
This release keeps Remote Admin accessible when the dashboard fails, caches queue artwork across app restarts, extends volume ducking to every player source and improves camera streaming recovery.
New Feature: Persistent Queue Artwork Cache
- Queue Album Art Stays Cached Across App Restarts: Visible queue covers are saved as thumbnails in a disk cache capped at 100 MB. Older entries are removed automatically. The new Album art cache row below Duck volume during voice interactions shows disk usage and provides a Clear button in the app and remote settings.
Improvements
- Scheduled Screen-Off Overrides Use One-Minute Steps: In Remote Admin, the schedule editor's Turn screen off after slider now matches the main setting and the device's schedule editor instead of moving in five-minute steps.
- Volume Ducking Works With Every Player Source: Duck volume during voice interactions now sits below Player on the main Media Player page and applies to local Sendspin playback, Music Assistant, Home Assistant and Sonos players with volume control. The previous volume returns after the last interaction ends or the selected player changes. Sonos groups preserve each room's level, including when ducking to zero. Volume adjustments during a voice turn set the level restored afterward.
Fixed
- A Failed Dashboard No Longer Blocks Remote Admin: Voice Satellite controls load independently and JavaScript requests time out when the WebView stops answering. Recovery replaces failed renderers and releases the old WebView without waiting forever for callbacks. The dashboard watchdog also detects repeated JavaScript timeouts and restores the dashboard without restarting KS.
- Queue Artwork Follows the Visible Tracks: Now Playing waits for scrolling to settle before requesting covers and skips rows outside the screen. Scrolling away cancels downloads that no visible row needs. Shared album covers still use one download and a timeout prevents a slow Sonos response from blocking other artwork.
- Camera Failures Include the Capture Setup in App Logs: Camera diagnostics record the requested and actual capture settings, encoder startup, first frames and recovery steps. A limited history preserves the last failure and its recent context across app restarts. Recording runs in the background and excludes images and RTSP credentials.
- Camera Streaming Recovers With Simpler Capture Settings: RTSP uses a frame rate range supported by the camera and limits encoding to the requested rate. If a camera rejects the setup, the app waits for the previous camera and encoder to close before retrying without a separate JPEG output, then at a lower resolution. Fallback snapshots preserve motion, face and gesture detection. If streaming still cannot start, detection and snapshots can continue. Changing RTSP settings allows a fresh attempt.
- RTSP Errors Reflect the Failed Component: Encoder callbacks no longer hide a stopped RTSP listener or clear a camera failure using stale stream information. Closing clients release their sockets before disappearing from the server's client list.
