What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.9.1
Kiosk Satellite now acts on back press or back gesture. It opens the drawer menu, giving devices with gesture navigation where the OS claims the left edge for itself, a way to show it.
New: Back gesture/button opens the drawer menu
- Going back over the dashboard opens the menu (#312), whether by the back gesture or a back button: a toast says to press back again, and a second back within three seconds performs the back the first one swallowed, closing the app on a plain setup or stepping the page history where Kiosk Mode, lockdown or the Home Launcher role keeps the app in front.
- A run of quick presses keeps stepping the history without the menu reopening between them.
- This matters most on gesture navigation devices, where the OS claims the left edge for its own back gesture and the swipe that opens the menu never reaches the app: the back gesture that swipe turns into opens it instead.
- While Kiosk Mode is locked, back opens only the restricted quick menu and only where the edge swipe would, and lockdown never opens the menu on back.
- With the Home Launcher role held the menu opens without the toast, since a home screen's back has no app to close, and a back press while the screensaver is showing now simply dismisses it.
- Closing the app with back now backgrounds it with the screen kept ready behind, fixing a Fire OS quirk where coming back into the app after backing out left the menu and toasts invisible until a restart.
