What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.8.8
New Feature: Background Audio for the DLNA Renderer
- Audio pushed to the DLNA renderer can now play without taking over the screen (discussion #153): a new Keep audio in the background toggle under DLNA Renderer, off by default, keeps the dashboard, or a running screensaver, exactly as it was while TTS announcements or music play invisibly. Playback control from Home Assistant (pause, stop, seek, volume) keeps working the whole time.
- The toggle only applies to media announced as audio, so images, video and camera streams still take the screen exactly as before, even with it on.
Reworked: The Screensaver Switch in Home Assistant
- The Screensaver switch every device gets over MQTT now controls the master screensaver enable/disable, the same toggle the Screensaver settings page has, instead of only dismissing the screensaver for one timeout period (#152). Turning it off keeps the screensaver away until the switch is turned back on, so automations that keep the screen alive no longer need a loop pressing the Postpone screensaver button, and turning it off while a screensaver is showing dismisses it immediately. The switch also moved to the device's Configuration area in Home Assistant accordingly, keeping its entity id.
- A new Screensaver active switch carries what the old switch did: it is on while a screensaver is on screen, turning it on starts the screensaver right away, and turning it off dismisses it until the idle timeout runs out again.
Other Improvements
- Scrolling content now fades out gracefully at the edges instead of being cut off: the settings lists, search results, log boxes and scrolling dialog bodies on the device, and the settings pages, modals, nav rail and consoles in the Remote Administration UI, all show a soft gradient at an edge that still hides content, sliding away once the list reaches its end.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed the Remote Administration UI's File Manager breaking on narrow viewports such as phones: the Location tabs no longer overlap the Upload file button, the tabs now sit on their own toolbar without a card or label, and the per-file Download and Delete buttons became compact icon buttons that share a row with the file name. File and folder rows now use the same list style as the Gestures and Camera pages.
- Fixed the note under the gesture list in the Remote Administration UI rendering as full-size text instead of the quiet style the other card notes use.
