At a Glance is redesigned as a row of chips and now works on every screensaver, Immich included, with state-colored icons and its own scaling slider. The camera's Front or Back pick is controllable from Home Assistant and motion detection that dies silently behind a powered-off screen is now noticed and reported.
Changed: At a Glance on every screensaver
- Each entity now draws as a chip, a rounded pill in one translucent dark tone sized to its content, with the icon in its own circle leading the name and the state bold under it, so the row carries its own contrast and stays readable over photos.
- The icon's circle follows the entity's state the way Home Assistant lights up an active tile: a lit light glows amber and an unlocked lock warns red while everything idle stays neutral, and a new Monochromatic icons toggle keeps every circle neutral on purpose.
- The row is no longer limited to the Black and Clock screensavers: it appears on every mode except the WebRTC Camera grid, pinned near the bottom on the photo and web modes, and on the Immich screensaver it wraps into a narrower block whenever the metadata panels occupy the bottom corners, staying clear of them the same way it already wraps on a portrait screen.
- A Floating text style toggle restores the original floating-text look, and a Row scaling slider sizes the row to the screen the way Widget scaling sizes the corner widgets.
Added: Camera facing controlled from Home Assistant (#296)
- A new Camera facing select in the MQTT and ESPHome integrations mirrors the Camera setting's Front or Back pick, so an automation can point a phone at the room with its back camera for the night, as a baby monitor, and flip it back in the morning.
- Switching it publishes a fresh frame from the newly picked camera to the Camera entity a moment later, and every camera feature follows the pick at once: snapshots, motion detection and the motion sensor.
- Like the camera switches it works while the camera is off, so the facing can be set before an automation enables the camera, and it only appears on devices that actually have both a front and a back camera.
Fixed: Motion detection dying silently behind a powered-off screen (#271)
- Some vendors suspend an app's camera seconds after the panel powers off no matter what exemptions the app holds, Samsung's One UI on Android 11 among them (the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 generation), and they do it without any error, so the motion camera simply stopped seeing frames while every setting looked healthy and a dark panel could never be woken by motion.
- The app now watches for frames stalling behind a dark panel, logs a plain warning in the Console when the OS has suspended the camera, and restarts the camera cleanly at the next screen-on instead of trusting a session the OS quietly emptied.
- On such devices motion cannot wake a truly powered-off screen, that is the vendor's policy; the Black screensaver keeps motion wake working there, and the docs now say so.
- A camera stack that takes forever to initialize is also no longer waited on indefinitely: motion now gives up after twenty seconds, reports the error and retries, instead of sitting dead until an app restart.
