What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.8.31

Screensaver weather widget and dashboard view rotation learns to crossfade.

New: Screensaver Widgets (with a Weather widget)

  • The Screensaver settings gain a Widgets group: small corner overlays you add by picking a corner and a widget type, each widget carrying its own settings, up to one per corner. Editing works the same way on the device and in the remote admin, and edits apply live while the screensaver is showing.
  • The small clock is the first widget type (color, 24-hour format, optional date). An already configured small clock migrates into a clock widget automatically, keeping its corner and settings.
  • The new Weather widget shows a Home Assistant weather entity on every screensaver mode including Clock (except WebRTC Camera): a large temperature with its unit, the forecast with a matching icon, and optional location, humidity, wind and visibility lines, each with its own toggle. Readings stay live over a Home Assistant subscription, the icons are monochrome and take the widget's color, and lines the entity does not report are left out automatically. The location line is named by hand, since weather entities carry no city name.
  • A Widget scaling slider (50 to 150 percent) sizes every widget for your screen, previewing live. The corner vignettes behind the overlays are darker so widgets stay readable on bright daylight photos, and the Immich metadata overlay now steps aside to a free corner when a widget claims its spot.

New: Crossfade between rotating dashboard views (#189)

  • Dashboard view rotation can now dissolve each view into the next instead of cutting. It is an opt-in toggle in the Dashboard View Rotation settings, on the device and in the remote admin alike.
  • The fade happens inside the page: the next view fades in fully rendered with fresh entity states, and a view the rotation has never shown before is built invisibly over the current one and given a moment to render, so even the first pass through the ring dissolves.
  • Moving to a different dashboard or an external page still switches instantly, since nothing of the two pages ever coexists on screen to fade between.

Fix: Rotation ticks right after an app start no longer cause permanent full reloads

  • The rotation's strategy-dashboard detection could run while the Home Assistant frontend was still booting, conclude that an ordinary view needed a full page load, and then fully reload that view on every pass for the rest of the session. The check now stands down for the first 15 seconds after a page load; genuine strategy dashboards are still detected on their next pass.
