What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.8.23
The Digital clock can now be inverted to black on white, the File Manager's shared storage works on devices older than Android 11 and a new doc collects every Android grant the app uses with the adb commands to give them all at once.
New Feature: Background color for the Digital clock (#173)
- The Digital clock screensaver gets a Background color setting next to its clock color. It was the one face with a hardcoded black backdrop; Flip and Roller already followed their card and background colors.
- A white background with a black clock color gives the inverted face e-ink panels read best, which is what prompted this: black on white renders far better on those displays than the default white on black.
- The At a Glance row now wears the clock's color on the Digital face, as it already did with the Flip and Roller digit colors, so the row stays readable on a light backdrop instead of disappearing grey-on-white.
Bug Fix: File Manager storage on Android 10 and earlier (#175)
- "All files access" does not exist before Android 11, and on those versions the app both reported the shared storage root as available when the OS would refuse to list it and offered no way to ask for the storage permission that actually gates it there.
- The root now reports its real state, the grant buttons ask with the normal Android storage dialog, and writing (delete, upload) works on Android 10 and earlier. Verified end to end on Android 10.
Bug Fix: No more Cast button on MSE camera tiles
- Chromium overlays a gray Cast button on any video playing from a media source once a castable device is visible on the network, which made MSE camera tiles (introduced in 2026.8.22) grow one in their corner. A camera tile is not a castable movie, and now says so. WebRTC tiles never had it.
Improvements
- The Permissions Manager (Settings, Device) now lists All files access, the grant behind the File Manager's shared storage root. It was the one grant the app can use that the group did not show; the row appears on the device and in the remote admin alike.
- A new Permissions doc lists every Android grant the app uses, what each one is for, and a copy-paste adb recipe that grants everything at once, for provisioning a wall panel from a computer.
