What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.8.108
The Clock screensaver now features Night mode and fonts, the Flip Clock gets a proper look, notification cards can go translucent with a frosted background and a new Scale UI slider sizes the app's own screens for high density displays.
New: Clock Night mode
- A Night mode group on the Clock screensaver page (#391), on the device and in the remote admin alike: with the switch on, the clock's digits take a color of their own, a muted red by default, whenever the ambient light sensor reads at or below the Light level slider (1 to 100 lx, 5 by default), the way a bedside clock stays readable without lighting the room.
- The Night color applies to the digits on every face, the date and the At a Glance row, and the Night background, pure black by default, takes the screen behind them so a face tuned for a lit room does not keep glowing at night.
- Everything returns to its normal colors a little above the threshold, so a reading hovering on the line cannot flicker the face, and changes apply live off the sensor and the remote sliders.
- On devices without a light sensor the switch is disabled with the reason, and the sensor probe is shared with adaptive brightness.
New: Clock fonts
- A Font setting on the Clock screensaver page (#391) picks the typeface for all three faces: Rubik (the default and the app's own face), Nunito (a rounded face in the style of Apple's StandBy clock), one of the device's own families (System, Serif, Condensed, Monospace, Casual or Cursive, resolved through Android's font manager) or LCD, a segmented display face in the style of an LED alarm clock whose letters keep the date and AM/PM in character.
- Applies live to a clock already on screen, on the device and in the remote admin alike.
Redesigned: Flip Clock
- The Flip Clock defaults to the OLED look now: light digits on near-black cards over a pure black background, and the screen behind the cards is a Background color picker of its own instead of a shade derived from the card color, which lightened the wall behind the cards into a grey glow no setting could turn off and read as an unwanted gradient on OLED panels.
- The hinge line across each card shows the background through the split rather than a derived grey, and Night mode's background overrides it in the dark like every other face.
- Custom card and digit colors carry over untouched, and a customized card color no longer moves the background, which now has its own picker.
New: Notification card appearance
- An Appearance group on the ESPHome Notifications page (#390), on the device and in the remote admin alike: a Transparency slider lets the screen behind show through the notification cards, so a card over the screensaver no longer blots out the clock, and a Background blur slider frosts what shows through so the message stays readable over a busy photo.
- Text, icons and pictures stay solid at every setting, and cards already on screen follow both sliders live, so they can be tuned from the remote admin against a pinned test notification.
- The blur cannot reach the Home Assistant dashboard surface, which shows through transparent but unblurred, and the sound and volume rows now sit under their own Sound heading.
New: Scale UI
- A Scale UI slider on the Device page, in a new User Interface group and mirrored in the remote admin: sizes the app's own screens, the menu, settings, dialogs and overlays, from 50 to 150 percent, for high density displays where the chrome reads tiny next to a correctly sized dashboard.
- Web content, the dashboard, external pages and camera views, keeps its exact size and never reflows, and the slider applies live from either surface.
- App theme moved from the Device page's top rows into the new group, next to the slider.
Fixed
- The ESPHome Update entity's percentage no longer sits at 0 for the whole install (#387): the download progress went onto the wire as a 0 to 1 fraction where the ESPHome protocol wants 0 to 100, so Home Assistant showed at most 0% until the update finished. The MQTT update entity already converted correctly and is unchanged.
