What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.11.4
This release lets you add, change and delete calendar events right on the kiosk. Up next now shows who each event is for. A restored fleet leader keeps its followers, and two realtime conversation bugs are fixed.
Important: Update your Echo Show / Dot image
If you use a Kiosk Satellite Edition image on an Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8 or Echo Dot, update the image along with the app. The new echo canceller needs the raw microphone the new images give Kiosk Satellite: Echo Show 8 (1st gen) 2026.10.6, Echo Show 5 (2nd gen) 2026.10.7 and Echo Dot (2nd gen) 2026.10.18. On an older image the microphone level and the echo canceller will not work as they should. Get the images from the releases page.
New Feature: Edit calendar events on the screen
- Add, change and delete calendar events on the screen (#1283). Two new settings under Settings, Calendar, Editing, both off by default, turn the calendar from read only into one you can change. Allow adding and editing events adds New event (in the top bar on a tablet, a + button on a short screen such as the Echo Show 5 and at the bottom right on a phone), a tap on an empty hour of the Day view to start an event there and Edit on each event. Allow deleting events adds Delete. The form has the title, the calendars the event goes on, all day, the start and the end, how it repeats, the location and notes. An event on several calendars changes or goes on all of them, and a repeating one asks which days the change covers. Calendars that take no changes, such as a holiday calendar, stay read only. See Calendar.
Improvements
- Up next shows who each event is for (#1285). The Up next screensaver widget now marks each event with the picture of the person linked to its calendar, or the calendar's initial on its color when no person is linked. A shared event shows everyone on it. Turn on Colored dots in the widget's settings to go back to the small dots in the calendar colors. Night mode keeps to the dots.
- Plugin screensavers can take taps (#1282). A native plugin screensaver published with touch gets single taps, so it can have its own buttons, and a double tap closes it like Double tap to dismiss on the Home Assistant Dashboard screensaver. Motion, the wake word and the back button still close it. See Plugins.
Fixes
- Restoring the fleet leader brings its fleet back (#1208, #1257). If you imported the leader's export with Replace, Lead this fleet came back but the followers and profiles did not show up, and the next change on the Fleet Management page wrote over them. The leader now reads them in right after the import. The export also carries the id the followers know the leader by, so a leader restored on a new device or after a factory reset keeps its followers without new invitations. Exports from older versions do not carry that id, so after restoring one on a new or reset device, invite the followers again. See Fleet Management.
- OpenAI realtime conversations no longer fall a turn behind. If you spoke right after talking over an answer, OpenAI could refuse the reply ("Conversation already has an active response in progress") because the answer was still closing. What you said stayed unanswered, so the next reply answered it instead and the conversation stayed one turn behind. The kiosk now waits for the open answer to finish before it asks for the reply.
- A goodbye no longer ends the next realtime conversation. When the assistant ended a conversation without a word, your last line stayed in the history with no answer. The next conversation answered that goodbye first and ended right away, whatever you asked. Unanswered last lines now leave the history when the conversation ends.
