What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.11.2

This is a follow up to the big 2026.11.1 release. It fixes the new echo canceller giving up on devices it works well on, and adds a setting to pick the echo canceller or let the kiosk test the device for it.

Important: Update your Echo Show / Dot image

If you use a Kiosk Satellite Edition image on an Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8 or Echo Dot, update the image along with the app. The new echo canceller needs the raw microphone the new images give Kiosk Satellite: Echo Show 8 (1st gen) 2026.10.6, Echo Show 5 (2nd gen) 2026.10.7 and Echo Dot (2nd gen) 2026.10.18. On an older image the microphone level and the echo canceller will not work as they should. Get the images from the releases page.

New Feature: Pick the echo canceller

  • Echo cancellation method. A new Echo cancellation method setting in Microphone settings picks Automatic, GTCRN or AEC3. Automatic tests GTCRN while the kiosk plays sounds and switches to AEC3 if too much echo is left. Once the test settles, the setting shows the result as GTCRN (detected) or AEC3 (detected) and keeps it. The test takes about 30 seconds of sound the kiosk plays, over one or more answers, chimes or songs. Pick Automatic to run the test again. A system update runs it again on its own, since it can change how the device delivers the microphone. Pick GTCRN or AEC3 to skip the test. See Microphone.

Improvements

  • The app log follows the echo canceller. Every time it starts or stops GTCRN or AEC3, starts the Automatic test over, makes progress in it or settles on a result, the canceller writes a line to the app log. The line for the end of each sound used to go missing when the microphone closed.

Fixes

  • The echo canceller no longer switches to AEC3 by mistake. The test that moves a device to AEC3 when GTCRN leaves too much echo could fail GTCRN in the first conversation after an update: GTCRN was still learning the room, and someone talking over the answer looked like leftover echo. An Echo Show 8 whose canceller removes 35 dB of its own sound switched to AEC3 that way. The test now skips the first seconds of each new canceller and judges the moments where GTCRN does its best, so a voice over the answer does not count against it. A device that switched by mistake goes back to Automatic and tests again with this update.
