What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.10.9
This release lets plugins react to hardware keys and control the kiosk's volumes. It also stops Control Center on a Meta Portal from opening above Lockdown Mode.
New Feature: Hardware keys and volume control for plugins
- Hardware keys reach plugins. Plugins with
host.readcan subscribe to the newdevice.keyevent and receive the hardware keys that reach the kiosk, such as volume, media and remote buttons (#855). Each down, up and repeat arrives on its own with the key name, key code, scan code and repeat count. - Works with Disable volume buttons. A plugin sees a key press even when the kiosk swallows it. Pair a plugin with Disable volume buttons to let it take over the volume keys.
- Typed text stays private. Printing and modifier keys are never sent, so typed text does not reach plugins.
- Volume control. Plugins with
host.controlcan callsetVolumeto change the master volume or the media, assistant or intercom share of it.getVolumetakes the samechannelto read each one. A plugin can now turn hardware key presses into volume changes on devices where the volume buttons do nothing. - Volume changes for every channel. The
device.volumeevent now also fires when the media, assistant or intercom slider moves, so a plugin can keep its levels current. - Remote API. The remote API's
getVolumeandsetVolumetake the samechannel.
Fixes
- Lockdown Mode blocks Control Center on Meta Portal. On a Portal, Control Center opened above the lockdown shield and took touches, both from a swipe up from the bottom edge and from its volume panel (#857). Control Center draws as a system window, which sits above the draw-over-apps window the shield used. On a Portal with the System UI guard enabled, the guard now hosts the shield as an accessibility overlay, which sits above every system window, Control Center included. The exit gesture, the PIN prompt and Blackout work the same as before. Other devices, and Portals without the guard, keep the draw-over-apps shield.
