What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.10.7

This release adds a Voice Only skin for small screens and a Simplified Chinese localization. It also adds a gesture that plays or pauses media and web and X search for xAI Grok realtime conversations. Kiosks now play from foobar2000 over DLNA and the device camera recovers after the camera driver restarts.

New Feature: Voice Only skin

  • A skin for screens too small to read. Voice Satellite > Appearance > Skin gains Voice Only. It shows no command, answer, tool lines or results, only the Kiosk Satellite logo. The logo fills the screen, or sits on its own over the dashboard in docked mode.
  • Bars that follow the conversation. The logo's four bars stretch and shrink with the microphone and the spoken answer. With Reactive activity bar off, they run their own animation for listening, thinking and speaking instead.
  • Matches the light theme. In the light theme the full screen overlay sits on the same background gradient as the app launcher and the intercom.
  • Translated skin names. Skin names in the on-device picker are now translated. The remote admin's skin picker also checks for updated pictures instead of keeping old ones for a day.

New Localization: Simplified Chinese

  • 简体中文 is available. Pick it during onboarding or in Settings, on the device and in Remote Admin. All 3,778 current messages are translated.
  • Credits. Thanks to panda-star357 for the translation. Localization Credits lists them with a link to their GitHub profile.

Improvements

  • Play or pause media gesture. Gestures gains a Play or pause media action. It pauses the media player when it plays and plays it when it is paused, so claps or a hand showing fingers can stop the music without asking the voice assistant (#843). It controls the player picked under Media Player > Player, including the Local Media Session and followed players. The remote API's sendspinControl takes a toggle command for the same thing.
  • Web and X search for xAI Grok. The xAI provider's Configure dialog gains Web Search and X Search switches, both off by default. They let the model look things up on the web and in posts on X, next to the Home Assistant tools. xAI runs the searches and bills them as part of the conversation, so your key needs no extra setup.

Fixes

  • DLNA renderer plays from foobar2000. Playing to a kiosk from foobar2000 timed out and never started (#847). The renderer waited for the controller to take a state update before answering, while foobar2000 waited for the answer before taking the update, until foobar2000 gave up. The renderer now waits at most 300 ms before answering and sends the update right after. Home Assistant still gets the update before the answer as before.
  • The device camera comes back after the camera driver restarts. When the camera driver stalled and restarted, motion detection, snapshots and RTSP could stop until the app restarted (#848). The camera library drops a camera that goes missing while the driver is down and then fails to add it back. The kiosk now restarts the camera library when that happens, and the camera works again about 10 seconds later.
