What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.10.4
This release adds a Voice Satellite sensor that follows realtime conversations, a maximum call duration and a hang up button for the intercom and fleet invitations in the remote admin. It also fixes realtime connections to Azure OpenAI, the volume buttons opening the kiosk menu on Android 11 and older and Home Assistant cutting off the update notes.
Improvements
- Voice Satellite sensor. A new ESPHome text sensor reads
idle, listening, processingorrespondingfor Assist turns and realtime conversations alike. A realtime conversation runs no Home Assistant pipeline, so the Assist satellite entity stayed idle through it and automations could not tell which kiosk was talking. The sensor is listed while native Voice Satellite is on. - Maximum call duration and a hang up button for the intercom. Intercom > Talk gains Maximum call duration, from Unlimited (the default) to 60 minutes, which ends a call or announcement on its own. Hang up call when pressing this button turns Volume up, Volume down, Mute or Help into a hang up button during a call. Outside a call the button keeps its usual job.
- Accept a fleet invitation from the remote admin. A leader's invitation now shows under Overview > Needs attention and on the Fleet Management page with Accept and Decline buttons. Only a signed in admin can answer it, not a fleet token.
Fixes
- Realtime conversations connect to Azure OpenAI. Pointing the OpenAI provider at an Azure OpenAI endpoint failed Save & Validate with "Unsupported scheme 'wss'" (#817). The key now goes in Azure's
api-keyheader for hosts underazure.comandazure.us, so the key stays in the API key field instead of the endpoint. Connection errors also hide any key in the address they quote. - Home Assistant shows the full release notes for an update. The update entity cut the notes to 250 characters, so Home Assistant's update dialog showed only the first lines (#819). The notes now come through whole, and a kiosk several versions behind gets the notes of every release it missed.
- Volume buttons no longer open the kiosk menu on Android 11 and older. With Disable status bar and the System UI guard on, every volume press opened the kiosk menu and stepped the dashboard back toward its default view (#821). The volume buttons now only change the volume.
- A camera view opened over another app returns to that app. Showing a camera view while another app was in front left Kiosk Satellite in front after the view closed (#814). The app the view covered now comes back, the same way it does after a voice interaction.
- Now Playing returns to the dashboard when it closes on its own. When Now Playing closed after the music stopped, the configured screensaver came up, even with the screensaver turned off (#774). The dashboard now comes back and the idle timer starts over.
- Realtime conversations follow new instructions right away. Session duration carried earlier exchanges into the next conversation, and the model kept copying answers given under the old instructions. Changing the instructions now clears the remembered exchanges.
