What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.10.36
This release adds Battery temperature and CPU clock sensors, makes CPU usage accurate on devices that misreported it and lets plugins turn a choices setting off while it cannot work. It also fixes the screensaver on Meta Portals, phantom batteries on some ROMs and plugin updates and pickers.
New Feature: Battery temperature and CPU clock sensors
- Battery temperature. Devices with a battery have a new Battery temperature diagnostic sensor in Home Assistant, read from Android's battery report. It needs no permission, so it works on devices that report no CPU temperature. It also shows on the Hardware page of the remote admin, under Battery level, and plugins read it as
batteryTempfromgetStats. - CPU clock (#824). A new CPU clock diagnostic sensor reports the average clock speed of the active CPU cores in MHz. It also shows on the Hardware page of the remote admin, under CPU usage, and plugins read it as
cpuClockfromgetStats.
Improvements
- Plugins can turn a choice off. The new
setSettingChoicesEnabledSDK method turns a plugin's choices setting or list row field off while it cannot work, such as while the device it lists from is unreachable, and back on. While it is off, its picker and Refresh button do not open on the device or in the remote admin, and the saved choice still shows. - ONVIF encoder options. ONVIF now answers GetVideoEncoderConfigurationOptions, which ONVIF Profile S requires, with the stream's current resolution, frame rate and H.264 profile. NVRs that ask for it while adding a camera no longer get an error back.
Fixes
- CPU usage showed the clock speed on some devices (#824). On devices without cpuidle, such as a Raspberry Pi 4 on LineageOS, CPU usage reported where the clock sat between its slowest and fastest speed, so it read 60 to 100% while the CPU was nearly idle. CPU usage now comes from the kernel's own CPU counters where Android allows it, from the thermal HAL on devices where Kiosk Satellite is the device owner, and from cpuidle on the rest. It is accurate on the Raspberry Pi 4, the Echo Show 8 on LineageOS, which read two to three times too high, and the Meta Portal. A device with no way to measure load gets no CPU usage sensor instead of a wrong one.
- Portals woke to the dashboard with Person under Wake to screensaver (#1092). Portal OS turns the screen on by itself when it sees someone, and Kiosk Satellite took that wake for the power button, so the screensaver flashed and the dashboard opened. It now reads what woke the screen from the system log, so a wake from the Portal's person detection keeps the screensaver with Person picked under Wake to screensaver. The power button still opens the dashboard. Picking Person also reads the person sensor without the Enable person sensor switch.
- Portals turned the screen back on after the power button. Every time a Portal goes to sleep, its stock dream opens the home app. Kiosk Satellite took that for a Home press, so it stopped the screensaver and turned the screen back on a few seconds later. It now ignores the dream's Home and the screen stays off.
- Devices without a battery showed one at 100%. Some ROMs, such as LineageOS on the Echo Show 8, report a battery that is present and full but at zero volts and zero degrees. Kiosk Satellite now treats that as no battery, so these devices get no Battery sensor in Home Assistant and no battery in the remote admin or the screensaver widget.
- Plugin updates failed after a list lost a field. Updating a plugin whose new version removes a field from a list setting's rows failed with "Unknown plugin setting" once any rows were saved. Kiosk Satellite now drops that field from the saved rows, the way it already drops a removed setting.
- Plugin pickers blamed Home Assistant before a plugin listed its choices. Opening the picker of a plugin setting whose choices the plugin had not listed yet showed "Could not reach Home Assistant". It now shows the plugin's own message from the new
emptyTextmanifest field, such as what to set up first, or "No choices yet. Refresh to look for them." without one.
