What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.10.35
This release adds a Hand Clock style to the Clock screensaver and a Full screen setting that keeps the status and navigation bars on screen, so a tablet's taskbar stays in reach. Plugins can now draw native screensavers, switch which screensaver shows, and offer richer settings with grouped choices, choices in list rows and typed number fields. This release also fixes proximity on the NSPanel Pro, makes ONVIF report the camera's real H.264 profile, shows icons with numbers in their names and smooths out the plugin settings in the remote admin.
New Feature: Hand Clock
- A clock with hands. The Clock screensaver has a new Hand Clock style, a dial with hour, minute and seconds hands, ticks and numbers.
- Numbers and seconds. Numbers shows them at 12, 3, 6 and 9 or at every hour, and Show seconds hand turns the seconds hand off.
- Your usual clock settings. Font Family, Font weight, Clock size, Clock color, Background color, Background photo and Night mode all apply. See Clock.
New Feature: Full screen setting
- Keep the system bars (#1076). A new Full screen switch under Screen & Audio > Screen keeps the status and navigation bars on screen when turned off, with the dashboard between them.
- Your taskbar stays in reach. On a tablet with a taskbar, such as Samsung's One UI taskbar, the taskbar stays in view so another app is one tap away.
- Kiosk mode still hides them. Kiosk mode and Lockdown always hide the bars.
New Feature: Plugin screensavers and settings
- Native plugin screensavers. Plugins with the
screensavercapability can publish a screensaver drawn by an Android view through the newpublishScreensaverViewSDK method. It shows in Screensaver mode as "Title (Plugin name)" like the HTML screensavers, fills the screen with the Kiosk Satellite theme, fonts, icons and UI scale, moves with Pixel shift and leaves every touch to the kiosk. The widgets, At a Glance and Now Playing layouts show with it as they do with the other screensavers. - Plugins can pick the screensaver. A new
screensaver.modeplugin capability adds thegetScreensaverMode, setScreensaverModeandclearScreensaverModecommands, so a plugin can switch which screensaver shows without changing your settings, such as a hardware monitor while a PC game runs. The mode it asks for wins over the schedule and Screensaver mode until the plugin clears it or stops, and a screensaver already on screen switches right away. - Grouped plugin choices with details. A new
setSettingChoicesSDK overload takes up to 2000 choices, each with a label, a group, a detail line, a value, a category and a Material Design icon. The pickers look like the entity pickers: choices with the same group sit under one heading, the value shows on the right like an entity's state, chips filter by category and the search covers the labels, details and groups. - Plugin choices in list rows. A
stringfield inside a plugin's list setting, or inside its nested list, can now declare"choices": "plugin". The row editor shows the same picker, Refresh button and "This choice is no longer listed." warning as a choices setting, on the device and in the remote admin. Rows show the picked choice by its label instead of its ID. - Typed number settings for plugins. A plugin's
numbersetting or list row field can declare"input": "field"to show a number field instead of a slider, for a wide range or an exact value such as a temperature limit. Both the device and the remote admin show the unit, explain why a value is not valid and save only a valid one. Such a setting is not limited to 10000 steps like a slider.
Improvements
- Plugin choices are kept across restarts. Kiosk Satellite keeps the latest choices a plugin listed for each setting, so after a restart, or while the plugin cannot reach its device, the settings pages still show each choice by its label until the plugin lists new ones. The settings pages and remote admin also fetch a choice list only when it changes, so long lists no longer travel with every progress update.
- Plugins know when their settings page is open. A plugin hears
settings.pagewith{"open": true}when its settings page opens on the device or in any remote admin browser and{"open": false}once it is closed everywhere, so it can keep its choices fresh only while someone looks. - Wildcards for plugin readings and charts. A plugin's display group can claim readings and charts with
"*", every one no other group names, or"sensor.*", every reading of one type. A plugin whose sensors depend on what you pick can now show their values inside its own group instead of the separate Readings section.
Fixes
- Proximity on every NSPanel Pro (#1081, #980). The NSPanel Pro 120 reports 1 when something is close and 0 otherwise, the reverse of other panels with the same sensor details, so the screensaver woke when a hand moved away instead of when it came close. Some NSPanel Pro 86 panels rest at 0 and blip to a few counts, which woke the screensaver with nothing in front. On an NSPanel Pro, Kiosk Satellite now reads the sensor's raw count from its driver and wakes on a clear rise over the resting level, on both models and all firmware. The log shows which source a session reads, the resting level with each near and far, and a summary of the readings after 30 seconds and every 5 minutes.
- ONVIF reports the real H.264 profile (#1080). ONVIF always described the camera stream as Baseline, but many tablet encoders produce High. It now reports the profile in the stream itself and remembers it across restarts, so an NVR sees the right profile before the first stream starts. The camera log also lists each ONVIF operation and RTSP step a client sends with its result, once every 5 minutes for each kind, to show where an NVR stops.
- Icons with numbers in their names. Material Design Icons whose names hold a number, such as
mdi:battery-10,mdi:cpu-64-bitandmdi:numeric-1-box, drew nothing when Home Assistant or a plugin asked for them, such as a battery entity's icon in At a Glance or an Entity widget. All 276 of them now draw under the names Home Assistant uses, and icons picked under the old spelling keep working. - Plugin settings in the remote admin no longer redraw the page. Saving one plugin setting redrew the whole Plugins tab, so a switch that shows more settings, such as Custom colors, flashed the page. A save now updates the open plugin page in place, the way the device does, and the scroll position and other rows stay as they are.
- Picker chips with a mouse in the remote admin. The filter chips of the entity and plugin pickers only scrolled with a finger. They now scroll by dragging with the mouse too, and a picked chip slides to the middle of the row so the chips beside it stay in view.
- Plugin list notes and separators in the remote admin. A plugin list setting that is alone in its group now ends its card with its description as a hint with the info icon, the way the device shows it. A plugin list followed by more settings in the same card now has a line between its add row and the next setting.
