What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.10.34
This release adds Panalume support, so a kiosk can show Panalume full screen as its dashboard, and every other app in the Home Assistant sidebar works the same way. It also brings Amazon's own wake word engine to the Kiosk Satellite Edition image for the Echo Dot, so the Dot can listen for Alexa, Echo, Computer, Amazon or Ziggy in 17 languages. Kiosk mode gets its own list of allowed apps, and you can now set the order of the App Launcher's tiles. The screensaver Entity widget can show only in certain states, and the Home Assistant Dashboard screensaver can let taps reach its cards. This release also fixes Music Assistant player controls that failed, the Wake word selects after an engine change and disabled plugins offering their voice skin.
New Feature: Panalume support
- Panalume as your dashboard. Panalume now shows up in the dashboard pickers after your dashboards, on the device and in the remote admin. Pick it as the default dashboard and the kiosk shows Panalume full screen, with no Home Assistant sidebar or header around it.
- Every Ingress app, not just Panalume. Any app with Show in sidebar on in Home Assistant, such as Music Assistant or Node-RED, is now selectable the same way. Each one shows by its name with Ingress page under it.
- Anywhere a dashboard goes. Use an app as the default dashboard, add it to the dashboard view rotation, make it the screensaver's dashboard or a gesture's target or select it from the ESPHome Dashboard view select. See Custom Pages.
New Feature: Amazon's wake word engine on the Echo Dot
- The wake word engine the Echo Dot ships with. On the Kiosk Satellite Edition image for the Echo Dot (2nd Gen), Wake word engine under Voice Satellite > Wake Word offers Amazon, which the image runs on the Dot itself. On any other device the option does not show, and a kiosk that receives it from a fleet leader listens with vsWakeWord.
- 17 languages. A Wake word language select appears under the engine, set to Kiosk Satellite's language by default. The wake word selects in Home Assistant then offer the wake words the image has in that language: Alexa, Echo, Computer, Amazon or Ziggy.
- Stop and sensitivity. A plain "stop" stops a ringing timer or a reply, like the other engines' stop words, and Sensitivity applies.
New Feature: Allowed Apps in kiosk mode
- A separate app list for kiosk mode (#1067). With Apps on under Kiosk Mode > Allowed Actions, a new Allowed Apps group lists the App Launcher's apps with a switch each, on the device and in the remote admin. While kiosk mode is on, the launcher shows only the allowed apps, whether it opens from the quick actions menu, a gesture, Home Assistant or the remote API. The full list stays behind the exit gesture and PIN.
- Ready on upgrade. Every app already in the launcher starts allowed, and apps added later start off. See Allowed Apps.
- Custom tile order. Settings > App Launcher > Apps now uses the same picker as the entity pickers, so you can drag the picked apps or use the arrows to set the order of the tiles.
Improvements
- Show an Entity widget only in certain states (#1066). The screensaver Entity widget has a new Visible states field under Displayed value, on the device and in the remote admin. Enter a comma separated list of values and the widget only shows while its value matches one of them, such as
Openfor a garage door oronfor a washer that finished. Each value matches the displayed text or the raw Home Assistant value and ignores case. Leave it empty to always show the widget. See Entity. - Double tap to dismiss for the Home Assistant Dashboard screensaver. The Home Assistant Dashboard screensaver group has a new Double tap to dismiss switch, off by default. With it on, single taps reach the dashboard, so its buttons, sliders and popups work while the screensaver is up, and a double tap dismisses it. The dashboard carousel and pull to refresh stay off while the screensaver is up, so a swipe or pull cannot move or reload its view. See Home Assistant Dashboard.
Fixes
- Player controls match what Music Assistant can do with the source. Music Assistant offers every control to a Sendspin player, whatever plays on it. While its AirPlay Receiver played, the kiosk showed pause, previous and next, and every press failed. With Music Assistant set up under Settings > Media Player, the kiosk now reads what the playing source supports and shows only those controls, on the player, in the Now Playing view and in the Android media session. Seek, repeat and shuffle only work on a Music Assistant queue, so they also hide while a source such as Spotify Connect plays.
- Wake word selects follow an engine change quickly. After a change to Wake word engine, the Wake word selects kept the old engine's wake words for several seconds, so the page looked stuck. They now show Loading… while Home Assistant reconnects to learn the new wake words, on the device and in the remote admin, and the new list arrives in about a second and a half. The same applies to Wake word language and to adding or removing a custom model.
- Picking a wake word in the remote admin keeps the page. A change to a Wake word select on the Wake Word page redrew the whole page, sometimes twice. The selects and the engine's rows now update in place.
- Disabled plugins no longer offer their voice skin. The Voice Satellite Skin picker listed the skin of a disabled plugin, and picking it showed the default skin instead. It now lists plugin skins only while the plugin is enabled, on the device and in the remote admin.
